From WalterFootball.com:
http://walterfootball.com/college/Texas_logo.gif Colt McCoy, Texas
Height: 6-3. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2010): 1-2.
1/13/09: Colt McCoy lit up Ohio State's slow defense in the Cool Ranch Doritos Fiesta Bowl, going 41-of-59 for 414 yards, two touchdowns and a pick.

12/20/08: With a completion percentage of 77.6, a YPA of 9.2, a passing touchdown-to-interception ratio of 32 to 7, 576 rushing yards and 10 rushing scores, many can argue that Colt McCoy should have won the Heisman.

10/12/08: Forget the sophomore slump. Colt McCoy is red-hot this season. His completion percentage is a shade off 80! He has 17 touchdowns and just three picks. His YPA is 9.9. He was brilliant against Oklahoma, going 28-of-35, 277 yards and a score.

3/26/08: Colt McCoy had a disappointing sophomore year, throwing 18 picks after just seven in 2006. His completion percentage dropped three points as well.

2007: McCoy threw interceptions like a madman in a 20-point loss to Kansas State. Through five games, he has way more picks than he had as a freshman.

McCoy's freshman campaign reminds me a bit of Philip Rivers' 2006 season. The Longhorns, much like Marty Schottenheimer, didn't let their young quarterback loose until midway through the season.

When McCoy was allowed to fire at will, he tore it up. He threw for six touchdowns against Baylor. He compiled 346 yards and three scores against Oklahoma State. He accumulated 256 yards and four touchdowns at Texas Tech. He was 26-of-40 for 308 yards and two scores in the Alamo Bowl against Iowa. There's no reason to think McCoy will regress; he has great weapons at his disposal and plays in a weak conference.

Comments:

4/28/09- My top QB in the 2010 draft at this very early point. Has all the tools to be a franchise QB. Fantastic blend of athleticism with pocket presence and poise. Id like to see some games where he takes over to show that hes the leader and game changer that your going to want to pay for considering how high he will likely get drafted.

8/11/09- Replay of Ok St. game 08/09- Stands and delivers the TD fade throw to Shipley with 2 defenders in his face. Another fade to Cosby for a TD. Just throws the ball on target and effortlessly.

10/16/09- Tex vs. Ok- Blasted from the blindside for a forced fumble by Austin English. Gets happy feet at times and tries to force things. In the early 1st, hes getting nothing done. You want to see him take over a game... hasnt done that. His 1st completion was a nice mid/deep out pattern... well thrown... replay- incomplete... 3rd and 20. Under pressure, throws for 10 when he needs 20. Seems athletic, muscular but short. Throws the ball with good velocity and accuracy. The issue appears to be game management... poise. Getting pressured a lot but isnt adjusting and making plays. Isnt showing you can count on him to make plays and keep the chains moving. Has the athetic ability to make all throws, nice velocity, throws a nice spiral, quick release. He really can put the ball right where he wants to. The problem is he forces things, makes bad decisions, and looks clueless. He will throw the ball right at a very covered WR. At least someone like Locker will manage the game, move the chains, and put his team in position to win. You cant count on McCoy to lead the team to wins. Its still early in the game and the season but he looks like he needs a lot of work on the mental side and unfortunately, thats the hardest part to learn. Sacked again. This game is a war, would be a very tough game, and everyone knew it. Do teams want a guy who plays big in big games or not? Will teams just shrug it off and say "he had a bad game"? Remains to be seen. But as a Bills fan, I want a player that will play big in big games. Fumble on a run close to the endzone. Looks a ton like Losman in this game. Athletic guy who looks clueless and tries to make things happen causing mistakes. Decision making is very much in question. 3rd quarter, much much better at making decisions and moving the ball. Makes a very nice throw in the redzone with Travis Lewis unblocked and in his face. Its 1 quarter and 1 quarter does not a franchise QB make. Threw a terrible pick to Jackson in the 4th quarter... No one in the area... another poor decision... sounds like a pattern. I feel better about what Locker did in leading his offense to an overtime loss against Notre Dame than I did about what McCoy did in this win.

10/24/09- vs. Missouri- Another QB that's hot and cold. Playing lights out early in this game. Showing the decision making and pocket presence that he needs to to convince scouts his worth the hype.

Colt McCoy is a gunslinger who wont wow you with his arm but can win you over with his game. Hes not prototypical size but has adequate height where he wont have trouble throwing over his lineman or seeing the field. He shows very good durability and is a 4 year starter. McCoy is a leader on the field, he can keep the chains moving and has a fiery play style where he can “will” his team to wins. Colt could use work on his footwork, and could further refine his skills in throwing the ball. That said he has good accuracy and delivers his throws with good zip. He doesn't have a weak arm, but it isn't world class either. Colt can suffer from poor consistency and can look clueless on the field at times. He needs to be developed in a system that will give him short to intermediate range options to throw to and where he wont have to make difficult reads. If hes developed slowly, he could become someone like Drew Brees. In the wrong situation, he could be a lot like J.P. Losman.
