2/4/09: Rusty Smith compiled 3,224 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 picks as a junior. However, his 53.8 completion percentage isn't going to get it done.
7/24/08: Voted as the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, Rusty Smith compiled 3,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2007. The Sun Belt sucks, so level of competition should be a factor, right? Well, Florida Atlantic did a great job of scheduling BCS competition, as they battled Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Kentucky, South Florida and Florida last year. In those five games, Smith went a combined 97-of-171 (56.7 completion), 1,321 yards, 10 touchdowns and just three picks. All five contests were blowout losses, as Smith just didn't have the horses to compete. Still, he performed admirably in all five games, including Florida (18-of-33, 290 yards, one touchdown).

10/17/09- vs. North Texas- Has a strong arm but has a 3 quarter delivery... doesnt come over the top. Pretty inaccurate. Not impressed on that 3 and out. Hes off target, and has a strange, almost side armed, throwing motion. Will sling it on target at times for TD's. Doesnt look off his primary target much... may not get through his progressions the way you would like. Has good pocket presence and poise. Doesnt get rattled. A pocket passer. Will make pretty throws at times. Will stand in there and drill it. Teh kindof player who may be limited by his mechanics issues. He may be at his peak unless he changes his mechanics. Probably a career backup.
Summary:
Rusty Smith throws the ball with a 3/4 delivery. He can be inaccurate, but will also stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. Smiths pocket presence is decent to very good which may intrigue a team or two. He has good size. Rusty’s strange mechanics may prevent him from making quality throws in the NFL, but his abilities in the pocket may make a team take a chance.
