"He said he wanted to go to college," Mike Maybin recalled last week. "I told him, 'You've got two choices - get a scholarship or go into the military.' "

Maybin, a lean, long athlete, earned that scholarship to Penn State with only a few speed bumps. One came halfway through that freshman year at Mount Hebron, when Mike Maybin pulled his son off the wrestling mat in mid-practice one day after report cards came out.

"He brought me a D," Mike said. "I don't do D's."

Last week at Mount Hebron, Arrington was flanked on stage by Maybin, his father and Hannon. He's now an advisor to Maybin as well as one of his closest friends. So is Chargers defensive end Shawn Merriman and Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, who talks to Maybin several times a week. Maybin, Arrington, Lewis and Merriman work out together in the offseason.

01/22/2009 - Evans spoke for nearly 20 minutes to a trio of beat reporters at Power Train, a workout facility near Millersville University. He is living with former PSU teammates Tyrell Sales and Josh Gaines who are also working out at the facility. Blue chip prospect Aaron Maybin is present as is fullback Dan Lawlor. Paul Posluszny recommended the place to the PSUers working out there. Maybin met with reporters for about 20 minutes as well saying his diet is a little different, eating mainly meat and protein. He is living in the same complex as the others, but solo. Maybin and Saunders both said that they are working on differnent positions, defensive end, outside linebacker and also some reps as a defensive back. Saunders said Maybin has picked up different concepts very easily, saying sometimes it takes him only two or three reps to get an idea down. Maybin said he has received an invite to the combine and isn't sure if he will go or if he will stay at Power Train and work out until Penn State's pro day on March 18. - Eric Thomas' look at Penn State football

Maybin's mother, Connie, died when he was 6-years-old from complications during childbirth.[21] His father later remarried, and Maybin has said he considers his stepmother, Violette, to be his mother. "I have never called her my stepmother," Maybin says. [21]

C'mon, justa, we want to feel miserable about everything Bills-related. Stop trying to cheer us up.

Eric DeCosta, Ravens director of personnel:"He's going to get bigger, stronger and faster."

I like this quote:

"What impressed Luthe even more was that Maybin never took a play off - even in practice."

Sounds like Rudy with size and talent.
