WIVB-TV Ch. 4 in Buffalo is reporting that the AP is reporting that Jack Kemp has died at 73.

Before politics, Kemp was a professional quarterback for 13 years in the National Football League (NFL), Canadian Football League (CFL), and American Football League (AFL). He served as captain of both the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills and earned the AFL Most Valuable Player award in 1965 after leading the Bills to a second consecutive championship. He played in the AFL for all 10 years of its existence, appeared in its All-Star game seven times, played in its championship game five times, and set many of the league's career passing records. Kemp also co-founded the AFL Players Association, for which he served five terms as president. During the early part of his football career, he served in the United States Army Reserve.

Jesus, what the hell is going on here? A few weeks ago there were rumors that Ralph had died, then his daughter passed earlier this week and now Jack Kemp. He was a great Bill and a great patriot. RIP Jack.

WASHINGTON – Jack Kemp, the ex-quarterback, congressman, one-time vice-presidential nominee and self-described "bleeding-heart conservative" died Saturday.
His spokeswoman Bona Park and longtime friend and former campaign adviser Edwin J. Feulner confirmed that Kemp died after a lengthy illness.
Kemp had announced in January 2009 that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He said he was undergoing tests but gave no other detail.
Kemp, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, represented western New York for nine terms in Congress, leaving the House for an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988.
Eight years later, after serving a term as President George H.W. Bush's housing secretary, he made it onto the national ticket as Bob Dole's running-mate.

When you get old, it happens. It is sad because we are talking about great people(Bogdan, Kemp), but their legacy lives on and my condolences go out to their family members.

I might get bashed for this but your thread name sounds horrible. It sounds alot nicer if you right Jack Kemp died or passed. But dead just sounds bad. JMO

Our country and our Bills community have lost a great man.

I am too young to remember his football playing career. Never saw him play outside of an occasional faded highlight reel.

I knew him almost exclusively for his political career. He is one of the few politicians that I had real respect for. He was a compassionate Republican who gave a damn about the poor and the working class people. Wish more people in his party felt that way and worked as hard Jack did for the little guy.
He was always a great supporter of WNY and Buffalo. Truly a great public servent, would have been a damn good President too, in my opinion.

It's always sad to lose another Bills fan. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

RIP Jack Kemp

First of all my condolences to Mr. Kemp's family...

When Mr. Kemp was running for congress the first time my Dad was a Republican committeeman. So Mr. Kemp came over to our house and gave a short campaign speech to some other liked minded citizens. At the end of his talk, our dog sat down at his feet and began to clean himself. We were trying to hold in the laughter but Mr. Kemp never missed a beat though responding, 'I guess we know what he thinks about what I said!'

And yet another hero from my youth has passed.

I saw many a game at the Rockpile with Kemp leading the Bills to victory. His autographed pic hangs in my back room and this is indeed a sad day. One of the all time nice guys to meet in person.

"Pro football gave me a good perspective," he was quoted as saying. "When I entered the political arena, I had already been booed, cheered, cut, sold, traded, and hung in effigy."

people like Jack Kemp and Tim Russert being dead while Ralph Wilson is still alive. Things couldn't really be worse.

We didn't just lose a great man. When it comes time for the Bills' fate to be decided we have lost another prominent public figure who could've potentially made efforts to keep the Bills in Buffalo. This really sucks.

I met Jack Kemp a couple times, and he was a true gentleman. Great ball player, great statesman, and a true patriot. He cared deeply about people, and he cared deeply about Western New York.

I will cherish the memory of those times for the rest of my life.

I feel as if I have lost an extended family member.

With all due respect I think you should remove the exclamation point at the end of this title as it makes it seem as though you're happy or excited about the news. I realize you're not, but it doesn't look right.

I talked to him for quite awhile in Miami a couple of years ago, briefly about the teams of '63-'66 and the games I went to, but mostly about his current situation, why he left politics and a lot about a common interest, Hugo Chavez.

Kemp was heavily involved in Venezuelan energy interests, and I knew it at the time. We had quite a chat about that situation.
I have always wanted to run into him again and see how that worked out.

I'm not wishing it on anyone else. I'm saying the loss of these two very vocal and public proponents is very untimely.

A great, great man. I never saw him play, but he was won of my favorite politicians ever, perhaps my #1 favorite. He clearly cared about people and wanted to make the area, country and the world a better place.

We lost a great Bills player, area leader, national leader and more importantly a great man.

RIP Jack.

For me, Jack Kemp Stadium sounds a lot cooler that Ralph Wilson Stadium.

My Kemp moment was when I interviewed him after he was inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. He took time to talk to a college kid who came up to him in a garage ... very classy.
He should have been at the top of the ticket in 96.
