    Pisa not really an upgrade?

The Bills are considering signing linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa. At first blush, it looks like a clear upgrade. The metrics tell a different story.

Im in the same opinion, I really don't think Pisa is much of an upgrade over Ellison. They are very similar players, fast, good in coverage, not powerful by any means, wont take on blockers. Rarely stuff the run at or behind the LOS.

We need an Angelo Crowell type player that is tough and physical in the run game but also a capable coverage LB.

There really is no point in getting a slightly better Ellison for significantly more money.

And for those of you who look at Pisa's tackling stats as superior to Ellison's, Pisa played Weak Side and Ellison played over the TE. Two completely different roles.

Yeah, it has been scrutinized already, and I believe Pisa is much better. In '07 they both played 9 games on the weak side. Pisa beat him in ever stat. Not to mention his 20 yrd sprint is 1/5 secs faster, or 1.5 steps. That is very significant.

        Agreed Mahdi (and Op).

I dont view this as significant either, while Pisa may very well be an upgrade its only because we are terrible there already. Not nearly the huge deal its made out to be.

Pisa is better but I wouldn't Kelsaypay (overpay) for him.

Again... Depending on who's counting... Here are the '08 tackle numbers...

            PT 104-135
            KE 71-73
Huge advantage PT... 46%-85% more tackles. DID I SAY HUGE?!

No need to over analyze this thing.

I do have to say this though. Keith Ellison is the new Tim Anderson.

Generally on this board, there is a variety of opinions. Some people knock a player, while others support/defend the same player. But every now and then, a player comes along who is so bad that there is pretty much universal agreement- no one stands up for the guy.

Tim Anderson was the first guy that had a consensus on this board. Keith Ellison is the new one. Everyone understands how bad he is on the field, and that's why so many want Pisa even if he's not a huge upgrade.

I don't see Pisa as a playmaker- I don't think he's going to come in here and get a ton of sacks and INT's. But I do think he can at least hold his own and not be a liability like Ellison.

Honestly, I dont think Ellison is a bad player. He has strengths. He is solid in coverage and runs well.

He just wont make any spectacular plays. I really think our lack luster DL is affecting our back 7 and causing their play to also be lack luster.

Fine... Then maybe we should compare his stats to...
                    Kawika Mitchell... ESPN...
                    '08, 16 games, 82 tackles

                    Pisa Tinoisamoa... ESPN...
                    '08, 16 games, 108 tackles

I think we all agree that Mitchell's a solid LB... At least up against Ellison anyway
PT had 32% more tackles in '08... again... HUGE!!!

If PT > KM... & KM > KE... then PT > KE.

Right but they're both Samoans. So you can't compare them.

                      Also different scheme.
