Giants quarterback Kerry Collins is starting to gain recognition around the league as a prime example of the kind of quarterback that NFL teams want.

Despite early-career episodes involving the running of his mouth and the pouring of certain liquids into it, Collins has grown into a tough player, and a leader in the locker room. He is a constant presence at off-season workouts, and he doesn't complain about anything.

As one personnel exec told us, Collins "always keeps his mouth shut and doesn't have to be the center of attention like some of these yoyos" (see Stewart, Kordell; Warner, Kurt; Manning, Peyton).

Statistically, Collins had his best season in 2003, with an 8.54 passer rating and 4073 total yards. With Amani Toomer, Jeremy Shockey, and Ike Hilliard, those numbers could go even higher in 2004.
