It's not quite the end, but it's getting closer to the day when the old Memorial Auditorium will be nothing more than a million memories.

A spokesperson for the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation tells 2 On Your Side the final Aud roof trusses are expected to fall Saturday morning sometime between 10:30 A.M. and 12:30 P.M.

You can watch a live webcam of the demolition by clicking here (http://www.earthcam.com/client/erie/).

This is not the final demolition activity at the site, according to ECHDC spokesperson Matt Davison. The Aud's south wall is expected to removed in mid-June.

I have great memories of the Aud going back to when I was a kid in the '50s. But it was a rat trap, and HSBC is so much better.

what's really depressing is that the city allowed the Aud to rot for 15 years. What's really depressing is that the city took so long to figure out what to do with such a prime piece of real estate. What's really depressing is even once it's out of the way, the idiots in charge will probably find a way to screw it up and not get any benefit out of the old Aud site.

Stay away from our city!!!!

So, you think it was a good idea for the city to allow an historic arena on waterfront property to decay to the point where it was too toxic to enter without a mask?

But he's totally right! They should have tore it down the day after the last game.

About the first part that is! The second part is wrong. I walk down to canal side almost every day and it's beautiful down there already. I really think they'll take care of business this time and finish it right. Should be done by 2011

yeah, I'm talking out of my ass. I mean, it's not like the city's been squabbling for 10 years over a Bass Pro or anything like that.

Considering the Aud's smell before they even stopped playing in it, I'd imagine it didn't take long at all.

You are if you are saying nothing is being built in that area when millions of dollars of development has taken place in the last 3 years.

I'm saying that given the city's record with lack of speed and lack of effectiveness in previous revitalization efforts, there is good reason to doubt that they can pull it off.

Right but what do you have to say about the millions of dollars of development already completed in that area?

it's a good start and a sign that things may be changing, but there is still reason for concern.

If they hadn't knocked down the Aud I would be concerned.

They'd re-build it just to stick it to the terrorists.

On a side note.. all that green space looks sort of odd in a downtown area..
