Gadsden, Dolphins still talking
MIAMI LAKES · The Dolphins appear no closer to signing wide receiver Oronde Gadsden than earlier in the offseason, but negotiations between the two sides are picking up.
Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said Monday that he had spoken with Gadsden last week about a possible return. Gadsden, though, remains unwilling to accept the team's offer of a one-year contract with an NFL minimum salary of $530,000.
"I talked to Oronde last week, and it was a very positive conversation," Wannstedt said at a charity golf tournament. "But there is nothing new to report."

Marino likes Miami's moves
Dan Marino has been half a world away the past few days, hanging out in Monaco.
But as an analyst for CBS and HBO, the future Hall of Famer can never get too far from the NFL. Marino, who calls himself "a Dolphins fan," is pleased with the team's offseason maneuvers and seems open to Miami making another controversial one.
"I like them trying to improve their defense," said Marino, while expressing regret former teammate Derrick Rodgers likely will be cut. "Getting a guy like Junior Seau can never hurt you, an All-Pro guy going into the Hall of Fame."

'07 Super Bowl all but certain for S. Florida
PHILADELPHIA · South Florida is almost a lock to play host to the 2007 Super Bowl, with only a few details to be worked out before a contract agreement is reached with the NFL.
That appears to be a formality after team owners were updated at the league meetings Tuesday. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said the South Florida group was "at the 97 percent or higher point of what has to be accomplished" for an agreement.
"It is mostly a question of some details," Tagliabue said.
League owners will review the contract and vote on it at a special meeting Sept. 17, with 24 of 32 votes needed for acceptance. The 2007 Super Bowl, scheduled for Feb. 4, would be the fourth at Pro Player Stadium and the ninth in South Florida.

Marks brtothers to be honored
The Dolphins have decided to induct Mark Clayton and Mark Duper into the team's prestigious Honor Roll, which could repair the relationship between the franchise and two of its most accomplished wide receivers.
Both players are expected to be inducted at a game next season, according to a source. The Dolphins declined comment, but an announcement is expected soon.
Clayton and Duper will be the first players added to the Honor Roll since Dan Marino in 2000. The Honor Roll has 10 players, former coach Don Shula, former owner Joe Robbie and the undefeated 1972 team.
Marino lobbied the selection committee for Clayton and Duper. Shula has said Clayton and Duper deserve the honor. The receivers' relationship with the team soured, and both left following the 1992 season.

Rookie Dolphins volunteer to paint Habitat for Humanity houses in Davie

DAVIE -- Twenty-one rookies competing to play with the Miami Dolphins traded their cleats and footballs on Wednesday for paintbrushes and primer.
They were helping paint 12 houses in Harmony Village, an east Davie community being built by Habitat for Humanity that offers low-income families a chance to own homes through an interest-free mortgage program. The families must also put in 400 hours of "sweat equity" building their homes as the down payment.
Harmony Village, which includes 22 single-family homes on four acres, is Habitat's largest project in Broward County. Located between Northwest 75th Terrace and 76th Avenue, north of the Davie Road Extension, it is expected to be complete in late August.

Williams brings message of hope

Ricky Williams has conquered many things in his life and one of his proudest achievements has been to learn to deal with social anxiety disorder.
As part of the national Mental Health Awareness Month, Williams shared his experiences Thursday with 50 healthcare professionals at Pro Player Stadium, recalling a story when he was noticed at the San Francisco airport not for his football ability but an appearance on Oprah.
"It's always been my goal to kind of transcend football and what I did on the field," Williams said. "I never planned on it being because of social anxiety disorder but that's what it's become, and I've learned to embrace it and realize I'm helping people. It's not that I enjoy the notoriety but I enjoy knowing what I'm doing is helping."

Broward County honors Ricky Williams

Broward County declared Thursday as Ricky Williams Appreciation Day for the Dolphins running back's work in promoting awareness of mental health disorders.
Williams received the honor during a speech about his battle with social-anxiety disorder at Pro Player Stadium.
Williams went public two years ago about his battle with social-anxiety disorder, which is a phobia that causes an intense fear of being scrutinized by people in public settings. Since then, Williams has become a paid spokesman by the pharmaceutical company that makes the anti-depressant drug Paxil even though he stopped taking the medication in July.
