The low point in Bills history came in the build up to their second season. Desperate to prove that it was the real deal, the AFL challenged the Canadian Football League to an exhibition game. It was decided that the game would be between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Buffalo Bills on August 8, 1961. The Ticats were one of the best teams in the CFL at the time and were chosen because they were geographically close to Buffalo. It was thought that beating a CFL team would prove that the AFL was at least the second-best football league in North America. The NFL had sent several teams against teams from the CFL and had won every game, so it was thought that victory against the CFL would be easy. Playing in Hamilton, Ontario, the game proved to be a disaster for the AFL as the Ticats crushed the Bills 38-21, playing a mix of AFL and CFL rules. To this day, it is the only time a pro football team from Canada defeated a pro football team from the United States.

A sad momment in bill's history.
Political correctness ( or cancel culture as it is called today) is a doctrine fostered by a delusional ,illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by MSM which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

and if the NFL did go through with it, they'd be stupid for using the Bills. This is a team and a city known for epic sports collapses.

Re: A sad momment in bill's history.
If they did not win or they beat a CFL team and it was a close game, the NFL would look really bad and they can't afford that. But it would be nice to see, our training camps just opened up, soon to have football back on tv. Tired of the hockey, love hockey but almost half way thru june and we are still watching it. and not a big fan of base ball or basketball. Just the NHL, CFL, NFL, and curling of course.Political correctness ( or cancel culture as it is called today) is a doctrine fostered by a delusional ,illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by MSM which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Re: A sad momment in bill's history.
We were a terrible team in 1961, period. We got better over the next few years and won AFC Championships in 1964 and 1965.Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Obviously that game was a huge factor in the AFL's demise, and ultimately led to the failure of the NFL to become a viable professional sports organization.YardRat Wall of Fame

Re: A sad momment in bill's history.
i don't think it's a sad moment at all. if anything, it was a measuring stick to see where the AFL stood against the NFL and CFL. competing against two other leagues in the 2nd year of existance was tough. they didn't have the advantage that we see nowadays with expansion teams.Originally posted by yordadChrist, you are the queerest person in the history of Bills fanhood. I swear to god I would stomp you.
