Once again there is a Western New York connection to a Stanley Cup champion. Brooks Orpik will become the latest Western New Yorker to have his name engraved on Lord Stanley's hardware.

Orpik, who played his high school hockey at Nichols, and his Pittsburgh Penguins beat Detroit Friday night, 2 to 1 to take the series 4 games to 3.

It seems likely that Orpik who grew up in East Amherst will bring the Stanley Cup to Western New York sometime this summer.

also his brother Andrew is property of the Sabres, and is returning for his final year at Boston College.

speaking of not touching it, didnt someone say the Pens could not win the cup because they touched the Conference Finals trophy? Without looking I swear it was someone who started this tread.

Stop looking, I found it. Any guesses?

t's kind of an unwritten rule in hockey that when your team wins the conference championship, you're not supposed to touch the trophy (in the case of the Eastern Conference, the Prince of Wales Trophy) because, in theory, that's not the piece of hardware you strive for. You're not supposed to show it the same respect you would show the Stanley Cup, so, by tradition, few teams ever actually acknowledge its existence, let alone touch it!

It doesn't matter anyways, Detroit is going to win the Stanley Cup again anyways. My guess is the series will go five games and Detroit will win 4-1
