I say go for this guy.. a Myers/Doherty pairing would be dirty!

15. Taylor Doherty, D, Kingston
6'6, 220
CSS 58 NA, ISS 52

When it comes to the blueline, several teams place a premium on size -- an asset that Doherty has in spades. At 6'6 and 220 pounds, Doherty still has room to fill out his already imposing frame.

Doherty does not project to be an offensive force from the blueline either in junior or in the pro ranks, but he has the size and the defensive mindset to be a less offensively-minded Zdeno Chara type of blueliner. This year he showed a greater understanding of using his body both in regards to positioning and in terms of physical play -- to which his 140 PIMs can attest.

latest mock drafts I've seen still have the Sabres taking Ryan Ellis at #13 TSN has us taking Zack Kassian @ #13 (there is NO WAY that the Sabres are drafting Kassian. The only way the Sabres are getting Kassian is if they trade up to #10 or #11 they NEVER trade up two years in a row they traded up last year one spot because they thought that Los Angeles was going to take Myers.)

13. Buffalo Sabres - Zack Kassian - 6-3/211 - Right Wing - (Peterborough/OHL)

Kassian is one of the only true power forwards on this list that can intimidate opponents and produce offence with equal efficiency. When he steps on the ice, he is always looking to make a check when the opportunity provides itself - and he hits to hurt. Do not let the rambunctious play distract you, since Kassian has some fine offensive skills at his disposal. His hockey sense and puck skills are good but not great which is fine since he bring other strong elements to the table. To his credit, Kassian does make good decisions with the puck and can surprise you at times and shows the passing skills to play with highly skilled players. He has a heavy shot and displays pretty soft hands in close around the net and could become a valuable crease presence. The kid is tough as nails and will hammer you with hits along the boards or in open ice and has no problem dropping the gloves and solving your problem. Kassian should develop into a reliable defensive player as he progresses. At times he can be a little inconsistent, but that is nothing new with prospects and as long as his work ethic is strong.

Unlessa trade occurs I think the Sabres are likely to take Zack Kassian, the big winger from Perborough. They might be intrigued by C Nazim Kadri from London, if eh falls, RW Jordan Schroeder from University of Minnesota or RW Landon Ferraro from Red Deer, who is small, but has real pedigree.

C Byron Froese from Everett is my sleeper pick. Great offensive potential, great on faceoffs, pedigree. He is just not very big at 6' 170

I actually hope they strongly consider D Dmitri Kulikov from Drummondville. He is 6'0 190, skates very well. Extremely dangerous on offense and the powerplay and acceptable in the defensive zone. He should be available around our pick, but could be snapped up higher.

I just can see him and Myers being conerstones for many, many years.

I've heard the Darcy interview and it pretty much sums up why I believe this is one of the worst run hockey departments in the NHL. The incompetency of these guys is fu**ing unbelievable. Anybody who believes this team is good enough or is even close to being good enough does not know a damn thing about hockey and should not be running the hockey department of an NHL team! This team will NEVER win a Cup with Darcy and Quinn making decisions. They've proven time and time again that they don't know what they hell they are doing.

Sabres to take a High Schooler @ #13

Round 1 (13th) - Chris Kreider (C, Phillips-Andover - Mass HS), Louis Leblanc (C, Omaha - USHL), Jordan Caron (C/RW, Rimouski - QMJHL)

A 6'2, 200-pound leader with strong hands, a missile shot, and superior speed, Kreider is exactly what the Sabres pipeline craves in terms of skill, character, and physical play. The Massachusetts native owned Division I of the NEPSIHA as a junior for Phillips-Andover Academy, posting 33 goals and 56 points in 26 games while elevating his play as the competition improved. After the Sabres completed their combine interview with the well-spoken Boston College commit, they watched as his physical attributes sparkled during the rigorous testing.

Because of his acceleration and release, Kreider could be an excellent breakout option as a wing as well. Either way, he represents a gifted, flexible placeholder depending on what happens organizationally between now and when he signs. You never know. He may very well end up being a dynamo on draws given his strength and coordination, which would obviously raise his value as a pivot.

Kreider repeated his sophomore year when transferring into the prep school, so unless he accelerates his senior year over the summer back in Masconomet's public system, he won't hit Hockey East until 2010. If that's the case, it will be in his best interests to head to Lincoln of the USHL for a preparatory season.

Isn't the average at least 3-4 years to get to NHL once drafted anyway? What's one more year? Also the guy is the fastest skater in the draft and supposedly has a good wrist and slap shot. The guy has speed in spades and you can never have enough of that. I would endorse this pick.

Sabres going FWD...

Kevin Devine, the Sabres director of amateur scouting, and Kyle Woodlief, writer for USA Today and the Redline Report, each shared Thursday morning insight, including who the Sabres might be looking for with pick No. 13.

"We've drafted defensemen first the last three years, so we'd like to get a good young forward," Devine said. "We've got 13, 14 guys we really like, and we like both positions. If it was the right forward there we'd be happy, but if not, we'll take a 'D,".

Woodlief tossed some names out there.

"There are going to be some good players around 13," he said. "They'd be happy if a kid like Scott Glennie, the left winger out of Brandon dropped down to them. If they are going forward, they might choose to surprise a little and go with one of the best pure skaters, Chris Kreider, a Massachusetts high school. Next to Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi, he's the best skater in the draft."

"If they chose to go with a more power forward type to give themselves some toughness up front, you might look at a kid like Zack Kassian from Peterborogh. He's probably the best combination of goal scoring ability and toughness. He's a feared fighter who gets room for himself, and he makes the teammates around him tougher when he's on the ice."

My point is that the status quo for the Sabres isn't working...The 13th overall pick is a long shot at making the NHL at best...Let's get a top 3 pick because what they are doing isn't work...They are going backwards and don't even know it.
