INDIANAPOLIS – Training camp is two and a half months away, but any questions about the Colts’ focus may have been answered Monday.

The 2003 summer school session opened. The session is voluntary, and attendance for some meant traveling hours and leaving their off-season homes.

Still, most of the Colts’ key personnel attended.

Quarterback Peyton Manning was there, as were running back Edgerrin James, wide receiver Marvin Harrison and most of the Colts’ 80-plus player roster.

“Here we are in May, and we have the whole team here,” Manning said. “I’ve always said, ‘This is where you really get better, in the months of April, May and June.’ In training camp, there’s such an emphasis on keeping everybody healthy, trying to get fluids and trying to get ready to play that you can’t really work on the little things.

“Now is when you get your timing down and get a feel for one another, so it’s important to have 100 percent participation.

“Now is when you get the core of your offense and defense in.”
