Bill Parcells barked instructions to players, chatted with owner Jerry Jones and silently observed with his arms crossed as assistants put the players through drills.
Parcells took the field Monday in his first practice with the Dallas Cowboys veterans, the first of eight over the next six days. Wearing a navy blue fisherman's hat and a white T-shirt, he ambled around the fields during the sweltering afternoon session, when the temperatures reached into the 90s.
Under the trained eye of Parcells, players exhibited pep that wasn't often present during previous training camps under fired coach Dave Campo, jogging from drill to drill and constantly encouraging each other during the two-hour practice.
It was just the kind of intensity Parcells promised the Cowboys - 5-11 in each of the last three seasons - would have when he was hired nearly five months ago....
