as of 12:30pm yesterday, the demolition crew ripped down the last remains of Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. The last remains came down piece by piece because it was close to the skyway.

I cant believe they couldn't do some thing with the AUD before it started decaying and wasting away.
The historical society will have a fit if we even mention taking down those eye sore grain elevators or what ever they are called, but the once mighty AUD has fallen.
So sad.

If only the Aud collapsed before they took it apart, and ruined the Skyway. That would have been the perfect scenario.

Good Riddance to that Cesspool.

Why people can't just move on is beyond me. They freaking moved out of Yankee Stadium for christ sakes.

The Aud was an ugly, outdated building that was built by the WPA in 1940. It has no cultural, historical or architectural significance, except for the memories many of us have of past sports events there.

Hopefully, its demolition will lead to real progress for Canal Side Development, with or without a Bass Pro Shop.

Buffalo has lost so much

The Larkin Building (gone) which was designed by world known architect Frank Lloyd Wright now all that's left is a 20 ft. high pillar of where the Larkin Building once stood.

The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Terminal (gone) the station was built by the DL&W RR at the foot of Main St. and it could be reached car or by boat. It had a massive stone viaduct with a track on it in the front of the terminal that went over Main St. It looked like a building that was taken out of Rome the only part of the station that remains today is the train sheds and which are used by the NFTA to house MetroRail

The Lehigh Valley Terminal (gone) was a white marble elephant as people used to call it. The station was built by the Lehigh Valley RR and it was located on lower Main St. actually right across the street from the Aud. Where the Donovan State building is. When asked by a reporter of the Buffalo News why the terminal couldn't be considered for remodeling of an office complex the arcitect gave the answer that the building was too cavernous and drafty

Wow, I'm shocked they got the whole thing down so quickly knowing the way the city drags its collective feet on doing anything.

About time something was done swiftly, sort of, for a change.

Now if only they could tear down those damn grain elevators.

I agree. And there have been other losses of architecturally and/or historically significant buildings as well. But the Aud is not one of them. And with current preservation efforts, most buildings worth saving are now being saved.

As will I. I went to so many games in that building as a kid. I remember watching the pre game warm ups vs Boston one random game and we were sitting behind the goalie and Bourgue Rifled a slapper about an inch from my head. I still have the puck.

I got a puck when dad and I were sitting in the Gold section right behind Barrasso! I still have it.

That makes us puck pals!

I don't understand why it took so long to finally tear the building down? It's been an eyesore for years and a symbol of this area's ineptness. I loved the building, but I also understand that you have to move on to move forward.
