It Was on NFL Network "Top 10 gunslingers of all time"

Jan Reimers

I watched it. They really played up Kelly's ability to throw the ball in the strong, swirling winds at the Ralph. It was a really good piece.

We're gonna be searching for the next Jim Kelly for a long time!

Enjoy our exceptional players while we have them... We never know if or when those positions will be filled so competently again.

I think the Biils, Broncos and fish have all been unsuccessful replacing their legends.

How many legends have there ever been?

That's why they're legends. The 49ers with Young/Montana are the only guys I know that were on the same team even over a long span.

Maybe Bradshaw/Big Ben but I wouldn't annoint him yet. Unitas/Manning and how long did that take? The Jet's still haven't replaced Broadway Joe.

Great QB's only come along once in a while. And it's usually in bunches, which ends up tarnishing their careers cuz you can't all win the Super Bowl!

No Elway? Stabler?

I'm impressed though that the list includes Sammy Baugh...but if you include him then how do you leave out Bobby Layne?

Oh well, at least there was a list that didn't forget the NFL has existed for more than 30 years.

Sonny Jurgensen with the size 46 waist?

Puh!

Yeah, where the heck is John Elway?

YardRat

I'd swap out Marino, Fouts, Warner, and Moon for Elway, Stabler, Layne and maybe even Otto Graham.

Pretty boys don't belong on a gunslinger list.

Puh!

Never watched him play, eh? Quite an amazing QB arm wise. That and he could party with the best of them, which George Allen despised.

It still amazing that Allen started Billy the Goober Kilmer instead of Jurgensen, but he did call on him when he had no choice but to air it out.

I'm betting Hist saw Jurgensen play more than a few times...

Bills fans thinks Kelly is one of the top five greatest of all-time.

statistically speaking he's in the top 15 all time. which is amazing considering he had a shorter career then anyone in the top 15 by a number of years (actually, he had the shortest career of anyone in the top 25, with one exception, Y.A. Tittle had as short a career as Kelly)

but top 5? no... Kelly definitely deserves talk in the 10-15 spot... and if you prorate his career out a few more years.. numerically at least he'd break the top 10 without a problem... probably if you are talking pure numbers, he'd be one of the top 5 had he played as long as elway or marino... actually statistically kelly had a higher (or nearly identical) average per game performance as elway. So had his career gone Elway's length.. he'd statistically speaking probably be around Elways numbers (around number 4 all time).

Had Kelly won a superbowl he'd be a top 10 QB. but he didn't. so 10-15 is about right, both statistically and otherwise.

It's just like how marino shouldn't be in the top 5 either.

If i was to name a top 10 list of top QBs ever, it would be (grouped in no particular order)
1-5 Montana, Unitas, Bradshaw, Otto Gramm, Elway
6-10 P. Manning, B.Farve, D.Marino, F. Tarkenton, Dan Fouts

I know these are "gunslingers," but Johnny Unitas has to be in the top 5 on this list.

Some of you are missing the point.

It's not a list of 'QB's'....or 'Passers'...it's 'Gunslingers'. Subtle yet distinct differences.

'Passers'? Yes, Marino, Fouts, Moon and maybe even Warner would be on the list and Kelly wouldn't.

'QB's'? Any list without Montana at least near the top would be a farce. Kelly, maybe not in the top 10, but enough of a successful body of work to at least be considered.

'Gunslingers'? No. None of the four I excluded from the list belong. They didn't have the grit or the attitude that comes with the tag. I could see an argument for Unitas though, and in all honesty my fourth choice came down to he and Graham and I went with Otto.

Jesus...How DARE anybody create a list involving QB's and NOT include the almighty Marino?? Get a grip.

How can you say Marino was not a gunslinger? Yet Kelly was in your opinion. THAT'S what I was laughing at

Simply throwing the ball 9 plays out of 10 doesn't make you a 'gunslinger', IMO.

Why aren't you sticking up for Fouts, Moon and Warner also?

Because you are a Dolphins fan, that's why.

Pretty boys in fancy pass-oriented offenses don't make a gunslinger.

Nothing will work for you unless the most over-rated 'QB' (and I use the term very loosely) is included, so what's the use.
