Plan In Place to move Maybin

ROOKIE IMPRESSIONS: Defensive end Aaron Maybin, the team's No. 1 pick, is a physical specimen with a lot of easily recognizable athletic gifts. But what happens when the mayhem of an NFL Sunday unfolds and the 249-pounder is giving away 60 pounds to offensive tackles and guards is a question yet to be answered. The coaches hope he can develop a good repertoire of pass-rush moves so he can utilize his speed in getting to the quarterback. It's already apparent backup plans are in the works to use him in a linebacker role if he does get overmatched by bigger bodies up front. It's up to Maybin what happens.

This could very well happen IMO.

Umm...how about NOT drafting a pass-rushing DE in the 1st round and then think about dropping him into coverage as a cover 2 LB?

They might play him at LB to expand his role this year. But they're not going to move him there full-time.

I think he would be a decent option at LB as far as this current roster goes.

I think Maybin is going to move around at least this season. The Bills will play him at right defensive end on at least some passing downs. He's also going to play some linebacker, but I think at least some of the time when he's at linebacker he's going to be rushing the passer. That's where his talents lie, and it would be stupid not to have him do what he's best at.

The Bills have stated they think he can eventually play at 260. 260 is not an undersized DE. There are DEs who are bigger to be sure, but there are some in 4-3 defenses who are smaller than that.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

This year, at DL maybin is a pash rush specialist, at best.. We all knew he would be. What's the harm in having him on the field more, if he's flexible enough to take coverage or run support responsibliities in certain packages

Whichever position he is best at is the position he should play.

Not if he's drafted in the 1st round. That's why we have scouts.

                        1) i love how the most important words of the entire story are set as a subtitle for the title of this thread..."if necessary"

                        2) why is it so apparent? what indicates this? they provided no details other than pure speculation. I'm not saying its not a possibility, I think he could be damn good at LB hes so athletic, but this is just another reporter's stab, not any real news.

And don't forget, like many said he's going to be the pass rush specialist this year. So that means, yeah he'll be in a three point wide and sometimes he'll be a standup "rush" end/backer to confuse the blocking schemes. Just because that happens doesn't mean he's failed as a DE, however.

Any plan to get Maybin on the field as much as possible is a good one... He'll provide the QB pressures we've been lacking... LIKE HE WAS DRAFTED TO DO!!
