There was no five-year plan. No let-me-get-my-feet-wet rhetoric. No hemming here, hawing there. The day he was introduced as the Chargers' new general manager, A.J. Smith came right out and said this is a "big push year" for his football team.
"I have no problem with A.J. saying that, no problem whatsoever," says head coach Marty Schottenheimer, who, in this case, either will be the pusher or the pushee.
When I first heard Smith say what he said, I wondered if he was talking about a "big push" to Los Angeles. But, no. He was speaking of his football team, and how he basically expects the Bolts to be better, which I assume means playoff-eligible
