    Sehorn Could've Played Corner

A league source tells us that, in choosing to sign on as a free safety with the St. Louis Rams, defensive back Jason Sehorn turned down the chance to be a starting corner in Carolina.

Other factors, per the source, were the opportunity to join a program that likely will be in the playoff hunt in 2003 and the presence of green cement at the Edward Jones Dome, which showcases Sehorn's speed.

Still, we think that speed (or the loss thereof) contributed to Sehorn's decision to play and get paid like a corner. There's no doubt that he's lost a step (or two), and we suspect that Sehorn had no desire to get the Wonder-bread-stuck-in-the-toaster treatment with the Panthers.

But even at the No. 2 spot on the Rams' depth chart, Sehorn will get a cool million for one season of work in St. Louis -- not bad for a guy who was unceremoniously dumped by the Giants in March.

And Sehorn could end up reigniting his career at the safety position, just like Rod Woodson has done with the Ravens and Raiders over the past few years.
