Our 6th and 7th rounders?

OK, that bodes well for getting our two, likely starting, G's into camp on time.

They all need as much time as possible with the team.

Doesn't the FO see this?

Fins have signed their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th. Still have their 1st, 2 second rounders and a 5th rounder left

I was just thinking about this. It seems slower than usual. I just don't get why the NFL doesn't do something to avoid this every summer. They have months to get the contracts done. It's so annoying.

Most of the blame goes to the agents. They have multiple clients and are literally working one against the other. They still feel it is to their advantage to try to play it out as long as possible.

The agents of our draft picks have the Bills FO cornered. They know how badly the Bills need Maybin, Wood, Byrd and Levitre in camp on time. They are all possible starters.

Did that actually get done? I thought it was the guy before and behind him that were signed, setting up Nelson's numbers? Hmmm ... how'd I miss that?

it ALWAYS seems slower than usual, doesnt it? I'd be willing to bet there has been a similar thread created over the last 5 years or more.

Every single year..................the sky is falling.

Listen man I myself am optimistic for this year and think the team has the ability to go 10-6, but you can't dismiss what he's saying. We expect these guards to start and if they aren't practicing they won't be starting.

I feel that, until the team starts to win, the sky has already fallen. I'm sick of hearing about all the bonehead **** that goes on and not winning.

How is it not falling?

this is not boneheaded...nearly every team is in the same boat we are when it comes to signing our top rooks...we have enough other things to worry about with this team, but until this drags out well into TC, this isnt one of those things!

If anything, they'll miss a day or two of practice. I know the whole "every snap is important" thing, but it's really the preseason games that matter. And we have 5 of those this year, which should really help our rookies.

Captain gameboy

Two things here.

I think the offensive line performance is the single greatest determinant of our year, and time in camp is more important than preseason games, ergo, it is critical that we get everyone here as soon as possible.

Over the years, if there is a significant problem between agent and GM, the agent presages it with media stuff, and I haven't seen that yet.

Yep, CB reported that and a few of other sites somehow misinterpreted it as a Nelson signing.

Dallas, Indy, New Orleans has yet to sign any pick this season yet.

That being said we need all our players signed before camp. I hate only having two guys signed with only three days to go.

I'm not worried about it at this point. The leauge needs to set rules in place to prevent these hold outs from happening. Whats the point of the draft if the agents hold all the power? Imaging having the first pick... it should have you up all night wondering what this kids expects and what his agent wants. They should be happy to have the chance... what percentage of 1, 2, 3 round drafts truely end up being SUPERSTARS????

And almost every single year this decade, it has.

I could be wrong...

But in the past decade, we have had every single player in on time, with the exception of the last 3 out of 4 years.

Thats a trend that seems to be getting worse for us, not the same, worse.

it ALWAYS seems slower than usual, doesnt it? I'd be willing to bet there has been a similar thread created over the last 5 years or more.Perhaps there have been similar threads over the years. However, it is slower than usual. The Bills have done a good job getting most of their picks (other than 1st rounders) in camp on time in the past. I can't recall any none first rounder not being signed in time for camp over the past few years. Right now, they have 5 guys to sign by Saturday. Plus, the Bills are starting a week earlier than usual due to the HOF game. So they will likely open camp without several rookies being signed.

I think the early start could have been plus, but with them not being there it definitely negates an advantage. I usually dont worry, but it does "seem" like a really slow year for signings.

It always seems like the agents wait for the first "sucker", i mean draftee to sign so they can go with the market tone, or unfortunately call it a sucker deal and hold out for higher value. There is always the first rounder who has his value set by the guy signing before and after him, but feels he is worth more.

Only difference is we are depending on 3 of our high draft picks (Byrd, Wood, Levitre) to start and another to be a major contributor if not a starter also in Maybin.

If those guys miss significant camp time it might result in them not starting week 1.

X-Era
07-24-2009, 06:29 PM
Sweet, so we are on the eve of training camp and our first 5 picks are still unsigned. That's a new record for us.

No its not good, we ought to see Maybin in camp by the end of next week... maybe.

If your serious about the playoffs, and you expect at least 2 of these guys to start, you realize that every single moment in training is crucial to wins and losses and you get them into camp on time.

X-Era
07-24-2009, 06:39 PM
OK, were down to 4... still a record for us in a negative way...by far.

Nope. 5 or 6 years ago we wouldn't be talking about holdouts at all. Last year we wouldn't be talking about any more than one, this year we are talking about 4.

The NFL should really just set up a contract tier based on what round and spot you are drafted in. That way you get a set sum of money. It'll be great for the teams. No contract hassles and you won't get robbed too badly if the player is a bust. Of course, the NFLPA would never go for it.
