PITTSBURGH - The road toward the Super Bowl started Tuesday for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The voluntary "coaching sessions" are under way.

These sessions allow head coach Bill Cowher and his assistants a chance to work with their players, rookies and veterans alike. These are strictly teaching seasons. And although they are voluntary, 82 of the 84 players on the roster showed up Tuesday.

There are three sessions scheduled this and next week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). There will be four sessions the third and last week (Monday through Thursday, June 2-5).

"It's good for all players ... even the veterans," said defensive line coach John Mitchell. "It's a chance for them to refine their skills."

Typically, the coaching sessions last three hours with an hour-and-a-half spent in the classroom and an hour-and-a-half spent on the field. Players will wear jerseys, shorts and helmets. No hitting takes place.
