NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Michael Vick (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/69083) says he is getting close to signing with a team but had no other details for reporters after a bankruptcy hearing in Virginia.

Reporters asked him as he left court if he was making any progress on signing with a professional team.

Vick said "We're getting close" but didn't specify if he meant the NFL and declined to provide any other details.

Pats, Vikes, or a UFL team would be my guess. ESPN is just speculating at this time, we have no clue what team hes going to play for.

Probably the pats... evidenced by being shrouded in mystery!

he'll be close to signing with the pats, but then it'll leak that belichick taped him dog fighting and handed the tapes to the fed and why he was arrested and sentenced to jail. Vick will back out of the deal.

this just proves that there are teams that need QB's. and almost every team needs a second QB. There is a market for him. I also guarantee you if the guy starts winning games, the team who has him will totally forget about his past crime. Whether that is right or wrong, that's a different debate.

1 team is interested out of 31

I sure as hell would not want to be a fan of that one team because this year there will be a huge negative vibe and circus surrounding that one team. I also guarentee that Vick will be harassed where ever he plays, and if he struggles a little the snowball will roll... and I am so looking forward to it...

I don't care if he signs with Buffalo. Well I actually I do, I want him. I could care less about all the media hooplah and whatnot as long as we are winning. Regardless of what he did off the field, the guy moves the chains and puts points on the board. The Bills have not proved that they can consistently do that in quite some time.

i agree. BEASTMODE only pitched a fit about your thread because he can't handle the ribbing in the Yankee and Blo Sox threads. he can dish it out but can't take it.

this thread should be moved since it has nothing to do with Bills football.

If its a UFL team-- man how the mighty have fallen.

Not really he can't play till week 6 (at the earliest) and the UFL season only runs till Week 11 of the NFL season. And He'd be in 100% game shape at that point. Even if his team makes it to the title game he'd be back by week 13 (UFL Championship is Thanksgiving Weekend). So he could still come to a team at a late point who has an injury or wants to add another weapon. Especially if he's any good in the UFL.

Could you imagine say the Pats go 12-0 in Week 13 and sign Mike Vick who just won the UFL championship and adds an entire new dimension to their team? If Im Mike, I jump to the UFL, dominate it and then sign in the NFL for good money and a shot at a ring.

He can play in week one if the comissioner wants. The suspension is to week 6 "at the latest" which means he can be reinstated at any point prior.

There are rumors around here that he is meeting with the Pats today. Pretty heavy rumors from multiple sources, although nothing reported that I can link.

Chris Mortensen has reported Vick has been offered a multi-million dollar deal by the UFL, though. If true, then I expect him to sign there because he needs the money and will be able to play at QB (not be a backup or play a different position).

They play a 6-week schedule, but that doesn't mean he can be back so soon. Their preseason starts on Sept 1, and the UFL regular season starts in October. The last game is on November 19 and the Championship game is played on Thanksgiving.

If he signs with the UFL he will be playing for them through November.

Also, if the Pats are interested in him it is probably not as a QB. They aren't going to run the Wildcat for more than a few plays when they have Tom Brady. Vick would probably come in to play RB, maybe as a 3rd down back or extra back in spread sets.

Ickybaluky

Those rumors that he is meeting with the Pats today must be crap, because this article (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4369128) reports Vick was in court this morning in Virginia for his bankrupcy proceedings.

This is what I know, and feel strong enough to put my name behind: Vick did not work out for the Patriots today, he is not scheduled to work out for the Patriots in the future, and he is not under consideration to be signed to the team.

(Update 5:22 p.m. -- The Patriots are now confirming that Vick was not in New England today, which is in response to a Miami Herald blog post)

Vick ending up in New England would hardly be a surprise. However, it would be a tragedy for the rest of the AFC East.

If there's any team in the NFL that can take full advantage of Vick's athleticism, it's the Patriots.

I don't think Tampa Bay is going for it. It is a team heavily mentioned, but they got Freeman plus they said they had no interest in June. To date 27 NFL clubs have commented on Vick, most denying interest with some teams being coy with statements like we have no interest at this time or we are evaluating the possibilities. Vick could land any where as of right now. Teams that have been quiet are Carolina, Green Bay, Arizona, Houston, and San Diego.
