I'm putting out a call to any talented writers here on Billszone.
I've officially gotten the call that I am going to head a new website in September, called Buffalo Sports Daily. It is NOT a Buffalo Bills website. It is a website that will cover in-depth all Buffalo (WNY) sports; from the pros (Bills, Sabres, Bisons, Bandits) to local college, high school, and amatuer sports. The site should be live by mid-September.
I'm now on the prowl for talent. I will be extremely busy with the local college and high school sports scenes, and will have very little time to devote to the Bills. In part because I"m a long-time member and fan of Billszone, I'm going to use a lot of Bills coverage from my people here (and credit all contributions of course to Billszone).
I also am not going to have implemented our own message board on the BSD site. Rather, I plan on talking to the powers that be here at BZ and jointly linking this message board (Bills, Sabres, Twighlight Zone, etc) directly to BSD; which over time should heavily increase membership and traffic for this board as well.
At any rate, I have some initial openings for writers. To be a little more specific, I'm looking for FOOTBALL writers. I want people who can pen comprehensive game previews and reviews, interview some athletes, and put together some interesting and unique player profiles and team features. Some will be for the Buffalo Bills, while in other cases some will write to cover local college and even high school football teams.
While I know a lot of you from this board, Im asking anyone interested to PLEASE NOT tell me "you're a writer" in this thread. I got a lot on my plate right now, and I don't have time to sift through too many comments.
Rather- if you're interested; please EMAIL me at patmoran2006@aim.com with any published articles you have you feel are strong; whether it be Billszone articles, or work you've had published elsewhere. If you're interested in writing but are just starting out, then please email me a quality writing sample (not a book!). I will respond to every inquiry accordingly within a few days, and let you know what capacity, if any I think you may be suited for. I know some of you guys write original articles for BZ, and some people tried out for that Bleecher report contest, etc. So I know there is some talent in here.
Finally, to make this clear--- Buffalo Sports Daily is NOT a competitor to Billszone, but rather will be a friend. Again, we're not just covering the Buffalo Bills, it's merely a portion of our coverage. If there is any site that has a target on them as far as I'm concerned its the Buffalo News (online.). This is a one newspaper town when it comes to complete local sports coverage, and we are focused on giving fans of any sport or level a better alternative.
The Bills will be a difficult sell at this late point of starting the site, but I'll be able to get my writers on the field and in the locker rooms for the majority of events covered.
There are going to be many facets of my site, including weekly chats, podcasts and a lot of original things, including video and an eventual daily radio show that wont' be seen anywhere else.
I plan on working side-by-side with Billszone rather than another football site- and jointly both stocks could be greatly raised.
So again, anyone interested in doing some writing, please email me your work and I"ll get back to you.
I'm also potentially looking for a few photographers (who will get credentials) as well as a photoshop expert. If interested email me about that as well.
I already have an editor (from here) and I'll soon be discussing our podcast with my man, Coach Sal..
Thanks!
