    HOW TO BET IN PRESEASON

    By DonCanabis/D'BOYZ
    Analyst/Godfather
Ok Guys, since we're in preseason and there's no need for me to give you a weekly prediction of the outcome of the games I decided to use this segment to help you by giving you guys some tips on how to bet during Preseason.
Many football betters disregard the NFL preseason odds because they don't know whats coming, who's going to play? for how many plays the starters are going to be there? are they putting something new etc...
But, what they don't sit down and think for a second is neither does the sportsbook, this is the time where they are more vulnerable because even a team like Detroit can beat the SB champions it all depends in who's healthy, who's playing there starters and who has more things to work and show.
Ok so with this in mind here are my tips on betting during the preseason.
    GL
    The Don
    1. If you have never bet on football stop reading this is not for you get some experience before you start practicing in the preseason. It's like putting a Rookie QB in the starting lineup since day 1 it can seriously affect his career ask Ryan Leaf.
    2. Don't do parlays, with this I mean don't put more than two teams in one ticket yes the pay is larger but in preseason the uncertainty can be a *****, do one or two teams tops this way you will end on top trust me.
    3. Check injury reports, during preseason any starter with a small injury will not play is the only time of the season when you can get an accurate answer from this injury reports. No team will risk losing their starter for the season.
    4. Check the lineups check which team has the better backups from the games you want to bet a team like NYG who have tons of talent and dept at WR and RB will continue to play at a high level after the starters are gone which will help you to cover the line.
    5. Teams with new Coaches tend to do more in preseason, they're trying to test their scheme with a new team so they will put more trick plays that will work in preseason, there's a reason Indianapolis always suck in preseason and that's because they only do the basic because they don't need to practice anything they've done it for the past 10 years.
    6. Check the Ovr/Und Lines these are the safest picks during preseason because of the uncertainty sportsbook they try to go safe and the lines are set at 30 something the lowest you'll ever see during the season take advantage of it because more games end on the Over than under during Preseason.
    7. Teams that start wining during preseason usually continue doing so, teams that start losing also continue doing so use it for reference.
    8. Do not bet on the 4th week of preseason and I repeat do not bet on the 4th week. This week is used by coaches as a dress rehearsal no starters play more than 1 series if you're lucky and no team take any risks they don't want to give anything before the start. Stay away from this week.
    9. Watch for the teams that have something to prove to the fans and themselves they try to get a momentum going, they try to show that they're better than what they actually are that's why a lot of teams that go 4-0 during preseason end up going 1-15 during the season, teams will let you beat them and lead you to believe they're weaker.

So these are my tips hope it helps.

If you bet during preseason, you're an idiot - and that's an understatement. Might as well just throw your money away.

Why? Are your chances somehow even less?

No you're not. It certainly takes more skill in betting the right lines, but lots of people make money off the NFL preseason. Plus the prop bets are always in play as well.

Sorry DMB not taking a stabb but how many people have lost money with the problems in the economy doing buisness with a financial planner wasn't it like trowing their money away.

Also as one said you can make money in the preseason sometimes even more than during the season it just takes a different aproach.

As a financial planner yo uhave to know tha tyou can take chance of different opportunities is just how you take it... the more you know the less risk same here.... I'm not telling you to bet or anything but just calling something foolish because you wouldn't do it or don't know how doesn't mean nobody can.

I first started betting games in the 80's, I amassed alot of systems to use, Paid for most of them and I always did pretty well. Whats pretty well ? The very best systems hit in the 70% range. What makes games better is when several systems apply to one game. thats nice. You have to be in the 60% range on your picks to stay ahead and make a few bucks.

Preseason ? bah, not worth the trouble IMO. I prefer to concentrate on the season.

Unless your gonna dive into this very deeply and spend alot of time doing the work your not going to be sending your kids to college with the money. Probably not even then. Bookies kids, they go to college

Also the way I got started on this was when I lived back in NY. My neighbor owned a sports bar and was making book. I got to be pretty good friends with him. We spent alot of time preparing picks for the weekends as he liked to pick as much as anyone.

My god you would not believe the cash this guy was taking in making book. I used to giggle looking at it.

The downside was he spent a lot of time of course skirting the authorities, I mean alot. Phones in fake names all kinds of stuff.

                      Ahh the good ol days.

I personally wouldn't call investing gambling, to the like of betting on football. Some people might disagree, I guess.

Betting on meaningless preseason games is dumb. I bet on regular season games all the time, but in the preseason, when teams like Detroit win, it's stupid.

Yeah I've been betting for 15 years now only football... bet what you know that's always been my mantra and usually I clear around 3 to 4k by december it's what pays the christmas shopping... I've never been a high bet kind of guy.

My motto is play with what you can afford to lose... I star each season with a $200 pot and bet around $100 each week in different ways usually 3 team's parleys. If the money rans out my betting season is over ( that has never happen fortunally) but I keep it controled don't go over board and have always come on top.

I don't do it to win the biggest amount I can, I do it because I like the rush, the challenge and it always makes a game more fun if you had something to lose or gain from it. Also it makes me learn more for every team instead of only my own.

Now Betting on preseason it really works sometimes I've cleared more in preseason than in regular season the trick is have your system and limit if ti works continue playing if it doesn't don't keep throwing away your money.

I haven't done it in the past 4 years because it takes a different approach and analysis which I don't have the time to put anymore but it works... Now I only bet during the season but it isn't foolish and it works if you can put the time.
