COMMENTARY Sullivan: Maybin overplays his hand

The holdout is at 25 days and counting. Aaron Maybin, the Bills' top draft choice, will almost surely be unsigned when the team breaks camp at St. John Fisher. He is one of only three first-round draft picks still holding out. While his teammates prepare for the new season, Maybin plays an ill-advised game of hardball with Ralph Wilson.

It's dragged on for too long. Every rookie taken below Maybin in the 2009 draft has signed. The Bills are ready to slot him into the No. 11 spot and make him rich beyond his wildest imaginings. It's time to sign a contract, get on the field, and start figuring out what it takes to be a productive NFL defensive end.

losing all kinds of respect for the man. if he's willing to holdout at this junction that pretty much tells me he's going to put the screws to us at his next earliest convienence

God I wish we drafted Orakpo instead

I was just going to post something very close to this. Enough blaming his agent, the system, the Bills' FO, etc. I find it hard to believe that, with all but 3 first rounders signed, Maybin hasn't been offerred a reasonable contract. It's up to him to sign it.

His attitude reminds me of Jason Peters. Maybe he'd enjoy sitting out a year, making nothing and learning nothing about playing in the NFL, rather than signing some multi-million dollar contract that's just not up to his elite ability.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

If he wanted to be here he would... Arrington and Posluzsny have stated that it's killing him to not be here. You would think it would be as simple as telling his agent to make a deal, or he's fired. So it's on him... What sickens me the most is guys like Whitner who say they in his corner. Get all you can get. It's never about the team, it's me, me, me. Whitner is yet another Ohio St. greedy scumbag that won't be here when contract time is up. (just like Winfield and Clements). My hope now, is that Maybin,Crabtree and Smith loose this whole season, enter next years draft and get selected far lower than they did.

Ugh ... I am over this ROOKIE. I'm hoping Ellis and Bryan can make an impact this year. At least they are working at getting better instead of whining how they wish they were with the team, blah, blah, blah.
            Let's Go Bills ... B B B B B B Bills!

my only question is i wonder with the way the crabtree thing played out, were we destined to have this disagreement with whatever player we took at 11? we'll never know, but something makes me think that any player would be in the same situation because the difference between 23-28 million is worth negotiating over. I'm not even being sarcastic.

Maybin will get everyone's respect the second he makes plays for us. I doubt very many of us would not follow the same advice from our agents in this situation. This isn't socialism. It's capitalism and he has his right to get the best contract. isn't that what we read over in the spin zone?

I admit that I was an advocate of drafting him. I'm one of the few who were happy we took him over Orakpo.

But I'm already losing my patience for him. He really has a lot to prove

I think this has more to do with the #11 slot than the player Aaron Maybin. I bet whoever we picked would be holding out because of Crabtree's crazy demands to be paid like the #6 pick.

If he gets 15 sacks this season, I'll be buying one.

I hated the pick then and I hate it more now.

I wanted Oher and then lower in the 1st I wanted Evertte Brown... I'm still not sure why Brown dropped so far, but i hear his QB pressure has been very good in camp. He's more explosive than anyone else in the draft, and just needs to bulk up and get better versus the run to be a very good DE.

I usually try to be supportive and patient in these situations, but I'm at the point of SCREW MAYBIN.

If he's not signed by the opener, I'm thinking about a knockoff that says "Maybe"

*I went and made another and changed it to 58, saved it.........and apparently got the 59 again. Not changing it, you get the idea, I'm going golfing.*
