The Eagles gave Tom Heckert a clear indication of how much they value his work simply by changing his title yesterday.

Formerly known as the team's director of player personnel, Heckert is now the team's vice president of player personnel.

"Obviously, it's nice to have that title and I appreciate it very much," Heckert said. "But that's not why I'm in this."

Heckert, 36, has served as head coach Andy Reid's right-hand man on player-personnel decisions since replacing former director of football operations Tom Modrak, who was fired two years ago.

"Tom Heckert has proven to be a tremendous worker over the last two years," Reid said in a statement. "He has done an excellent job in all aspects of the football operations departments. He was well-deserving of this promotion."

Though Heckert has a new title, he said his job "will not change much at all."

Heckert works closely with Reid in all player-personnel matters and is in charge of the player-personnel department, which includes the college and professional scouting departments.

His biggest task is preparing for the NFL draft.
