First, Orakpo. I stand by my assertion that the Bills should have taken him over Maybin, but he didn't do much in this game. They ran several stunts with him that were ineffective, so they tried him on edge rushes and he didn't fare any better. He had several tackles but they were all after modest gains. I still think he'll be good, but he's not as ready as I thought he was.

Second, Fletcher. He burst through the hole but missed a tackle on a third and short, yet I still wish we kept this guy. He's a defensive leader and he can still play.

Third, NE's offense. Brady certainly doesn't look like he missed an entire year. The only negative was that I saw him throw an incompletion trying to force the ball downfield when he had guys open in the flats twice (and it was 1st and 2nd down so it wasn't like he needed the yards). But outside of those two plays, that O scared the **** out of me. The Redskins barely got a hand on him all night. And NE ran a 2RB, 3WR set with Lewis, Moss, Galloway, Taylor and Maroney that was just sick. These guys are going to KILL us.

Fourth, NE's defense. They were still good, but not as imposing as they were in the past. They gave up a 73 yard completion to Cooley and allowed the Redskins back in the game after NE got a 17-7 lead.

Finally, O'Connell (NE's backup QB). This guy is either really green or he just plain sucks. He threw 2 INT's, and at least one was to the Skin's backups. If Brady goes down again, there's no way they go 11-5.

Lets make him go down OP! :btm:

I watched the game as well and while I agree with you on the other thing, I disagree about Orakpo. He had two QB hits and pursued and made the play on two inside runs for minimal gain.

What REALLY surprised me about him though was that he looked one play like he had defended against the run for years.

They ran a toss sweep to his side and he was the last person to beat for a big gain with the LT right in his face. He first strafed to the outside, stringing the run with him all the while getting blocked, finally disengaged from the LT and brought Taylor down exactly where he was getting blocked. It was a thing of beauty if you saw it and really showed him for more than a edge rush specialist.

I just had the sick feeling inside that Schobel, Kelsay, and definitely Maybin would have lost ground trying to get to that outside or probably would have been knocked over.

I think we made a mistake here.

Did i eer say presseason doesnt matter? Why do you guys read so much into it. waste of time and effort.

So you didn't see where Haynesworth squashed Brady which lead to Belichick shrugging his shoulders at reporters and dodging questions after the game?

I hope you are not using the preseason excuse to dismiss NE and Brady. He is back as good as he was and NE is the team to beat again.

It's really difficult to compare Orakpo to Maybin, when Maybin hasn't played a down yet.

I agree with Oaf.."I disagree about Orakpo." I thought he looked great!

I hope you recorded it, Op, to see what we saw. I'm sure you'll adjust your opinion if you do.

CRAP!! Since we passed on Orakpo, I was hoping he could at least injure Brady for us. :(

I still assert that Brady is the greatest QB I have ever seen... may the best ever to play the game.

You have no idea how I hate to say that.

The pats are back and that organization is a winner. I hate them with the pasison of a thousand nova suns.

did you really need preseason to know that?

Pats 12-4, Bills 10-6, Dolphins 9-7, Jets 8-8.

I can see that happening. With alittle divine intervention.

That dolphins game bored me to sleep. I doubt they're looking at 9 wins just like we shouldn't.

For at least the last 4 years, I've said the starters sucked in preseason and guess what? They sucked in the regular season too.

This mantra that teams can't be evaluated in preseason is absolute garbage. Teams don't get magically better once the regular season starts. Results don't matter in preseason. Performance absolutely does.

actually, that's already a +1 for Orakpo.

I didn't, unfortunately. But NFLN may replay it and I could record that.

I'm not sure who the 'we' is, but I watched a fair amount of the game, and I wasn't all that impressed.

1. Cassell looked like crap last year too and nobody thought they could go 11-5 with him.
2. I am disappointed and shocked that you did not make a joke about Tom Brady going down.

Your cold caused some brain damage or something.
