Brace yourself for another bloody cage match between players and owners now that Paul Kelly has been fired as executive director of the NHL Players' Association. The shift in power was just a warning. Danger lies ahead, and there's no telling how much carnage will be left behind.

Recent history has shown the dysfunctional union is way over its head when it comes to making decisions that require common sense. They don't call a repairman when their refrigerator breaks down. Their nature is blowing up the house, cleaning up the debris and hoping the one they buy with the new home works better.

It's with that in mind that Kelly, an intelligent man who appeared to be making as much progress as possible given his time in office, was abruptly jettisoned Monday morning during union meetings in Chicago. It was surprising, certainly, but to say it was a total shock coming from the NHLPA would be ignoring years of incompetence.

if that's the case, wouldn't the beginning of the end be the work stoppage/lost season?

I think this one gets very very brutal and we lose some teams.

addition by subtraction isn't a bad thing.... but that money draining cesspool known as the coyotes needs to get resolved...

they left winnipeg because they weren't "economically viable" to go to the desert where well...... nothing is working

you mean hockey doesn't sell in Phoenix, Arizona? Who saw that one coming?

LW...for the record...Bucky is right most of the time with his criticism of this organization. The fact that you don't understand that is your problem.

the article didn't mention when this possible stoppage would occur. Any word on when the CBA runs out?

For all the concessions that the players made coming out of the lockout, they had their arbitrators push up salaries the very next year. And somehow after last year, they kept the salary cap fairly unchanged and still kept phoenix, atlanta, and minnesota running for another year.

I agree, next lockout is going to kill southern hockey. but i don't know how. the owners aren't going to let ltheir team just get pushed out. they'd lose $200MM

Killing Southern hockey is a good thing. Hockey is not going to sell in the South. That experiment has jumped the shark even if they do keep winning the ****ing Cup.
