Stampeders sign free-agent running back Lawrence Phillips
CALGARY (CP) - Lawrence Phillips has signed with the Calgary Stampeders. Phillips, 28, the former NFL running back who helped Montreal win the Grey Cup last year, had been a free agent since being released by the Alouettes on May 2.
The signing reunites him Stampeders head coach Jim Barker, who coached the Alouettes last season. Calgary also announced the signing of free-agent linebacker Charles Assmann, 31, of Richmond Hill, Ont. Assman, who has excelled in special teams assignments, played with the Toronto Argonauts last season.
Contract terms were not disclosed for either deal....
