Daniel Alfredsson and the Ottawa Senators believed they put all the lessons behind them in erasing the dreadful memories of past playoff disappointments.
But there was one more frustration awaiting them as the Senators came up a win short of advancing to the Stanley Cup finals.

"Hopefully, we can learn something from it," Senators captain Alfredsson said following their 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils in Friday's decisive game of the Eastern Conference finals. "But right now, it doesn't feel like we can learn something from it. It's been a good ride, but it's frustrating."

The Senators completed a remarkable season. They overcame bankruptcy, finished with the league's best regular-season record and displayed newfound poise and determination in making the deepest playoff run in their 11-year history.
