View Full Version : Kiss our sucky team goodbye

That Ed Roski guy has gotten all the approvals and whatnot to build a stadium in LA.

This offseason he's targeting six teams, and you guess it, the Bills are one of them.

So this weekend when we're getting creamed by the Browns and all our fans give Ralph the business at halftime, I'm sure Roski will be on the phone by the end of the 3rd quarter.

"Hey Ralph. You can either make a zillion bucks right now or listen to these people ***** for the rest of your life"

Bye bye Bills.

It took 3 years to build Jerry World. How close is that new stadium in LA to being completed?

Ralph will never sell the team before he dies. He has hinted that he could move it in the past, but he wouldn't sell it. He's taking his baby to the grave.

If Al Davis dies first what happens to the Raiders? They've got a history in LA.

And what if that Ed Roski dies, like say from lead poisoning, does the LA deal die in a pool of blood beside him?

If keeping the Bills means more of the same loser crap.. then i say adios

I really have better things to do then to waste my time continuing to believe that Ralph is going to build a championship worthy team...

My only hope is that somehow the bills stay under new and imporved ownership but if not I just saved $300+ a year on my Sunday ticket subscription and probably another $100 a year on Bills stuff

my thought is the nfl would try to keep a west coast team like sandiego as the team that moves. it'll keep the division alignment the easiest.

imagine what an LA team in the AFC east would be like? that would suck, they'd start with 3 games on the opposite coast, every year. and that historically doesn't bode well for the west coast team. I think Sandiego is the obvious target.

And maybe jacksonville. They at least play in a division with some mid country teams like indy and southern teams like houston. so switching to LA won't be the worst. but going to boston, ny and miami each year is a problem. and it sucks for those teams to travel to LA each year.

but hey, if that's what the nfl wants, that's what they can have...and i'll get my sundays back and pursue something more worthwhile than follow a league that doesn't care about its fans.

Chargers
Vikings
Rams
Raiders

Possibly also the 49ers, if they can't finalize plans for a new stadium. Though it sounds like it's mainly those six.

Tell that to a Laker fan. Have you ever lived in LA?

There are plenty of good diehard fans in LA (myself being one of them). The difference with LA is that the general populace doesn't revolve around a single sports team (or sports in general). There's tons to do in Southern California other than spending big bucks to watch a sh$tty product.

TheBrownBear
10-08-2009, 11:51 AM
Really? Another team in SoCal?

There's only one team in So Cal and that's in San Diego, two and half hours from LA (further than Toronto from Buffalo for instance). Los Angeles should have an NFL team - it's fairly ridiculous that they don't. Having said that - I don't want it to be the Bills.

trapezeus
10-08-2009, 11:52 AM
also the chargers and the rams seem like the best ideas.

The fan base already has a connection to the rams. if the bills moved and they moved a team like the jags up here and we lost our name and logo (which won't be the case if they do move) but wouldn't you rather get the old team back? maintain the history in a wierd way?

Also the NfL has to look at the fact that the bills stadium is entirely financed and upgraded at the taxpayer expense.

the newer stadiums going up are the owners burden and they often knock the nfl door for some cash. the safe play is keeping the few teams that keep state funded stadiums in the mix. California is deifnitely not the area where that's going to happen.

As a SoCal resident who lives less than 10 minutes from the proposed stadium site, let me set some things straight:

1. It will take at least two years to build a stadium. However, the Rose Bowl or Coliseum would be used in the interim if a team (or two) moved to L.A.

2. Yes, the Bills are a target. However, local buzz is that there are one, possibly two teams that are already being targeted to move as soon as after this season. Due to the fact that no team would want to announce they are moving during the season, we won't know until after the season. However, since Ralph is still kicking, common sense is that the Bills are not in that mix. The speculation is that the Rams, Jaguars, Raiders, or Chargers are the one (possibly two) teams that are being talked about. Probably the Rams and/or Jaguars.

I wouldn't worry about the Bills moving to L.A. I think the queue is already being set up for the Rams or Jaguars, as both are really struggling, and the Rams are openly having an investment banker let them know what the options are in terms of selling, etc. The Raiders are always a wild card, and the Chargers are having issues getting a new stadium, and were from L.A. originally.

Also, I didn't see anything where the litigation with Walnut and City of Industry was settled? Did something just happen within the last day or so? There was supposed to be a ruling within the next 30 days.

thanks mudflap. that was good news. i hadn't heard that a move for the end of this season was imminent.

i also think with the moving of one game to tornto, the nfl is intrigued about a bigger market in the north, being international, and keeping the large fan base involved. they love the WNY tv ratings. it's one of the largest tv watching populations. that means dollars for the tv deal time. I think they know that if toronto is viable, then bills fans probably will be more likley to stay on with a toronto franchise and buy stuff and be loyal after watching a team move to LA.

I don't like the idea of moving to Toronto, but i can stomach that much more than an LA team. I could watch the Buffalo bills of Toronto. It's not my first choice, but it's certainly a better option to play in our logos and colors than play in LA under a new name.

Here is what Juice is running around in high heels and a mini-skirt about... the whole thing is not a done deal yet... and as I talked about... there are teams with more imminent problems than the Bills. The Bills biggest problem is not ticket sales or support, it's that the owner is old and the team sucks... but they sell tickets. The Rams suck, don't sell tickets, their fanbase is disinterested, and their owners are kids that inherited the team from their parents (one step beyond what we have here) and are actively looking at what to do with the franchise. The Jaguars aren't that bad, but they have no fanbase. The Chargers have a fanbase, but need a luxury box-laden stadium. The Raiders are the Raiders.

Roski's group plans to target teams in February (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/10/08/roskis-group-plans-to-target-teams-in-february/)

Posted by Mike Florio on October 8, 2009 9:09 AM ET
With Ed Roski and his company, Majestic Realty, moving closer to gaining final approval for a new L.A.-area stadium, the next -- and potentially far bigger -- challenge will be to find a team to play there.

"Come next week, our stadium will be approved (http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/oct/07/developer-interested-chargers-industry/)," Majestic exec John Semcken recently said. "Then we'll be able to go out and buy a football team."

Semcken said that the group plans to target at least six franchises: the Bills, Chargers, Jaguars, Vikings, Rams, and Raiders. The 49ers also could be in play, if they cannot finalize plans for a new stadium in Santa Clara.

"There are at least seven teams that are having an issue," Semcken said. "San Francisco, I think they're fine. So the other six teams, one of those six will move to our stadium."

Of course, Semcken said last year that a team would be playing in the Los Angeles area come 2009, so his credibility is a little suspect. He now thinks 2011 is a more likely target for temporary relocation to L.A., with the new stadium opening in 2013.

But keeping with the project's Field of Dreams re-mixed "if they come, we will build it" vibe, Semcken makes it clear that there will be no football stadium without a football game.

"We cannot build a stadium without a team," Semcken said. "Mr. Roski may be rich, but he's not stupid (http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/63720272.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiacyKUUs)."

Then again, Roski isn't as rich as he used to be. His personal net worth has dropped in the last year by a whopping $1 billion (http://www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_13493304), down to a paltry $1.5 billion.

The other problem comes from Roski's gambling interests. He owns the Silverton Casino Lodge; unless he sells it, he won't be owning all or any part of an NFL team. (Unless, that is, he replaces the "ski" in his last name with "oney.")

Meanwhile, Roski's quest inadvertently will provide the teams trying to improve their current situations all the leverage they need as they try to get new or improved stadiums in their current markets.

For the NFL, the ideal outcome would be to use Roski's interest as the vehicle for securing new digs for the Niners, Chargers, Raiders, Rams, and Vikings. Then, if tickets still aren't selling in northeast Florida, the Jacksonville Jaguars could sprout some spots and become the L.A. Leopards.

And if no team is interested in relocating to the nation's No. 2 market, we continue to believe that Roski's stadium could host eight neutral-site games per year, once the regular season is expanded to 17 or 18 games.

Under that scenario, Roski likely could keep his casino -- and also would fulfill his vision of bringing football back to Los Angeles.

Why? Everyone is so uptight about this. I don't see the Bills moving to L.A. at all. The only chance would be if this stadium thing stalls out and a stadium/team can't be lined up for a couple of years, the franchises that are out there (Rams, Jaguars, etc.) get their situations resolved, and then Ralph passes away and the team is sold to the highest bidder.

Right now, there are several teams with way more issues than the Bills. Remember, Roski can only buy one team. He is interested in two moving to L.A., but who would be the other owner? There probably isn't a candidate. So we are talking about one team. The Rams, Jaguars, Raiders, and Chargers all have more imminent issues that are pressing than the Bills, with the Rams and Jaguars being in dire situations. The Bills aren't in a dire situation. The team sucks, but the franchise itself is making good money, is debt free, and is selling tickets and merchandise. It's a healthy franchise.

If the Bills are going to move anywhere, it's Toronto.

The premise this thread is based on is half-baked. The Jacksonville Jaguars will move to L.A. before the Bills ever would be seriously considered.

Thats the thing for me, I cant just flick a switch a root for a whole new group of guys. It's stay on board or stop watching the NFL for me

I love football too much to stop watching. So if it did happen I'm sure after the hangover I would just move and. I know one thing for sure I would be a fan of the opposing team every week.

Everyone who is commenting on MBB's post either lives in Buffalo, or is from Buffalo. I completely hate living in New England, having never lived in or NEAR Buffalo, so I understand what he's saying. Anyone with no association to Buffalo other than being a fan of the team, will never know just how much this sucks.

However, I am done with the Bills if they move.

Okay, but do not become a Dolphin Fan.

Not living in Buffalo this doesn't effect me as much as you guys... but if going to LA means the Bills become a competitive team again... I am all for it.

Sorry.

I will blow up whatever new stadium steals the Bills from Buffalo. Mark my words!

I agree with some of the other comments...there is no way the Bills move before Jacksonville...they've covered good portions of their seats in order to achieve sellouts over the past few seasons...and now, this season, they can't sell that out. There is simply not a large enough fan base there (fan support for Florida teams always struggle...with large amounts of transplant retirees and warm, sunny days to care about). Beyond that, there is absolutely no history to the team...no legacy. There would be little resistance.

A move of the Bills would be far more difficult. Outcry would be heavy and the NFL would be faced with a situation similar to that of Cleveland a few years back...not identical...but very similar.

That being said, if they move...anywhere...I am done with pro football. The Bills ARE Buffalo. The Sabres ARE Buffalo. The fans will always be identified as hard-working, blue collar workers who wear their hearts on their sports team's sleeves. These franchises are very much intertwined in the fabric of the region. Of course, I moved away a long time ago and I could just be very sentimental. Regardless, Bills move and my football viewing days are over.

I don't know what I would do, When I moved to Tampa Bay many moons ago I tried to like the Bucs, I even bought merchandise. I watched all the games. I went to some games.

And I sat there one day and said...I hate these ***** guys :laughter: They were getting ready to make a SB run and I hated them :D Pretty tough to switch

I can't even understand how someone would attempt to like another team, regardless of moving to that city or not. I was in the burgh for four + years and I hate the steelers as much as any team in our division.

Jacksonville and Oakland are way ahead of us in the relocation parade, and a couple of others are slightly ahead.

We keep forgetting that relocation fees and the cost of a new stadium will create a phenomenal amount of debt for the acquiring city, so there are not going to be a large number of relocations. And franchises like the Bills, with no debt, a favorable stadium lease, and a strong fan base, will not be great candidates. The Bills, in Buffalo, will still be profitable - so the LAs ans Torontos may be better off looking at other teams.

This is one of the most disgusting threads I have ever read on this board. It makes us all sound like a bunch of clowns.

God damned ridiculous.

You know whats gay getting **** on everywhere you go because you root for Buffalo the you're surrounded by a majority where you live. I catch **** constantly.

MB.. I live in South Florida and fly a Bills flag next to the garage, have a bills plate on the car, and either wear UF or Buffalo Bills apperal.

For those that dont know ... South Florida is the home of every DIE HARD retired Pats, Jets, and local Phin fan. You dont know what getting **** on it. I cant get a damned coffee with getting **** from the ***** at the counter.

I consider this the BURDEN of the Bills... Its what we do Bro... We get knocked down and we hop up for more the next week.

I do not want the team to move from WNY. If it does ... I guess I got a closet of Throwbacks and no NFL team to root for... I'd rather the team fold than sell... **** that ****.... :fit:

Sucks for the fans, but it would make the franchise relevant again.

I will NOT cheer for any team with people from LA as it's fan base. WORST FANS EVER

Not true at all, Im from LA and I can tell you there some VERY loyal Dodgers, Kings and Lakers fans, me being one of them.

In any case, I dont want the Bills to move here and would still root for the Bills if another team did move here. Ive cheered for the Bills my whole life and nothings gonna change that, especially not somenoe asking me "what happened this week"
