Pass rush has improved a good amount

Last year we had a total of 24 sacks on the year. TOTAL. We ranked 28th in the league.

This year we rank sixth in the league with 11 total through four games.

That transitions to roughly 44 sacks projected this season.

44 sacks would have been good for fifth in the league last season.

The only teams with more would have been Cowboys with 59, Steelers with 52, Philadelphia with 48 and Minnesota with 45.


And yet we are 1-3.

9 of our 11 sacks are from Schobel, Denney, Stroud and Kelsay. Id say Sanders has helped thus far.

we seem to be flying after the QB instead of staying disciplined...think how many times Schobel or Kelsay or Maybin fly upfield at the snap and then they hand off a run off tackle underneath them...

we're getting after the QB sure, but we now cant stop anyone rushing. its kindof sad.

Actually through three games we were ranked top ten in the league in rush defense and even now we are 14th in the league.


We are however 25th in pass defense.

well tell the Dolphins and Pierre Thomas that we're 14th in the league...what is our yards per rush ranking??

I guess we did stop the Pats effectively, and the Bucs are crap. It just seems like we finally faced teams with good offenses (the Pats were way out of sync week 1), and they exploited the fact that we had not been respecting the run. Idk if I'm right or not, just seems that way when i watch them.

I know, I was accidentally looking at offensive rankings and saw 14th under rushing. So I thought we were 14th rushing defense. My mistake!

Our run D is horrible, but our pass rush has been quite good.

What's also impressive is when you look at who we've been getting sacks against. The Jets, who are a very good pass-rushing team, got fewer sacks and QB hits against the Pats than we did. The Giants and Cowboys both had zero sacks against Tampa Bay, but we got two. Overall, we've had pretty good numbers.

Exactly...all it means is that this defense can't get off the field and has more opportunities to pad the numbers.

I would think that considering how much we've been behind the last two games, it means our defense has MUCH fewer chances to sack QB's. New Orleans ran it quite a bit. The fact that we have what...7 sacks over the last two games is fairly impressive, imo.
