Bills Scoring by Quarter in '02:

    Offense:

    1st/2nd/3rd/4th/OT/Total
    48-141-97-81-12-379

    Defense:

    1st/2nd/3rd/4th/OT/Total
    85-129-61-116-6-397

We were slow getting started last year and generous in the first half.
Replace Donahoe with Modrak and fire the entire coaching staff!

    Then let's go to Disneyworld!

Solution=don't receive to start the game, put out a ferocious defense and get better field position.

We did start slow last year.

I don't remember how many times we fell behind early last year. Hopefully a better D will prevent that.

Yeah, I was just cleaning out some files and ran across that. I had only filled in the first 11 games. So I finished it and posted it.

I have no idea what if anything in particular it indicates, other than as 76777 says, we started slowly.

          Interesting nonetheless I suppose...

I guess the biggest thing that bothers me is that 116 allowed in the 4th.

Couple that w/ the 129 we allowed in the 2nd, it means that we allowed nearly 2/3 (61.7%) of our PA just prior to the half and EoG.

Fatigue in the 4th perhaps. But in the 2nd?

If you are up by 10 points going into the 4th then giving up 116 is not a worry.

We found ourselves in the following holes by at least the second quarter of the following weeks. A few were as early as the first quarter.

                Week
                2 – 13-6
                3 – 14-0
                6 – 17-3
                7 – 7-0
                8 – 14-7
                9 – 17-0
                11 – 7-0
                12 – 17-3
                13 – 14-3
                14 – 20-0

I think an improved D should help us keep it close early. I’d also like the Offense to score early.

Yeah, it'll also help if our "O" doesn't set up opponents' TDs inside our 20 or 30 YL too, eh!

Let's not blame the D for all of that mess that you just mentioned. I can think of at least 3 specific examples where the O set up some of those "trailings."

                    You got it EB!!!

You can blame the D all you want, but w/ only an average of 3 first Q points ourselves, what else can we expect other than to be operating from a hole! The question then becomes how big a hole.

Once again, another implication that our O was all that it could be last year and that any and all reasons for deficits was the D!

If all we can do is put up an average of 3 points in the first Q again this season, then expect to be behind quite a bit again TT.

A lot of those points don't count because the defense was in a prevent defense at the end of the game or the half.

No doubt! but I think the D needs to take most of the blame for falling behind so often.

But I know the O played a part.

I think that's the way we should be doing it anyway. It especially works out if we've got the ball at the end of the first half and then we come back to get it again.

Make no mistake about it: the defense was horrible. As a result and partially because of Henry's fumbling problem, Bledsoe was asked to carry the load. He responded by having the second best season of his career, with a new team and OC. Was he perfect? Nope, but neither were a lot of good QB's last year. I think he'll be much more effective with a better grasp of the offense and his teammates, not to mention better defense and ST's.
