The City was cursed before the Bills/Sabres

Did you know the Buffalo Bisons were within weeks of becoming a part of the American League way back in 1900? Yes, that’s correct; we were oh so close to becoming a Major League Baseball team permanently.

The Buffalo Bisons technically were a Major League Baseball team; part of the National League from 1879-1885. In 1886 the Buffalo Bisons moved into Minor League Baseball as member of the original International League. By the late 1890’s they moved to what was called the Western League, and were within weeks of becoming a Major League team when the International League announced it was changing over to the American League in 1900.

However, by the time the 1901 season started the Bisons had been bumped out in favor of the Boston Americans, now known as the Boston Red Sox. After that happened the Bisons decided to return to Minor League Baseball.
