"Practice? We talking about practice?"

In all seriousness. He would be a big return.

Agreed. I do like Donte. He was showing promise before he broke.

And I'm going to attempt to give a flying ****.

Can't tell the difference if he's playing or not, our defense is the same.

i hope he has an awful practice. Because the offense keeps having great practices but they can't score. Therefore if donte has an awful practice, perhaps he'll play well.

hey man.. Nobody understands the Bills disdain right now more than me.

But whitner was playing some SOLID football before he got hurt, easily the best of his career, which wasn't a very large measuring stick to begin with, but still.

Some people just look at things with one view, without analyzing.

Whitner is a very good safety. There is a reason our defense limits offenses to minimal points despite a solid pass rush... Whitner, McGee, Mcklevin.

Oh you mean instead of playing like a 7th round pick he's playing more like a 4th rounder.

Whitner's so good, we get burned by good TE's all the time. Like those 2 TD's to Benjamin Watson on Monday night earlier this year.

Yeah, OK.

Sounds like the players want a win and haven't given up like the fans.

Yeah, OK.

pretty sure the 2nd TD was on Ellison, not whitner...idk about the first

I know lots of us dont like Whitner but come on, if you cant see that he was playing at a pretty high level, then this is just blind hatred and nothing else.

That coverage responsibility was Ellison's. Whitner had the deep sideline.

They both were. Ellison was chasing Watson on both TDs.

This is a more accurate interpretation than the hate spewed in this thread.

- I'll write a post about how unbelievably important - unbelievable to me, at least - Donte Whitner (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1912/Donte_Whitner) is to Buffalo's run defense. Like Posluszny, Whitner is remarkably disciplined, and outstanding at reading keys and beating blockers to the back. I'll say it now: in the first three games, Whitner was playing at a Pro Bowl-ish level. Jairus Byrd (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71160/Jairus_Byrd) and George Wilson (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1915/George_Wilson) were OK in Miami, but neither has anywhere close to the run-defense dominance of Whitner. We need him back ASAP.

On the safety position. Folks, I realize that most of you hated the pick when it was made, but Jairus Byrd (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71160/Jairus_Byrd) was a great selection by this team. Or, rather, the player selected could be great. Byrd was all over the field Sunday, finishing with seven tackles and a really nice, plucked-before-hitting-the-ground interception on a terrible Derek Anderson (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2628/Derek_Anderson) overthrow. He made some pretty big hits defending the run, too. A week prior in Miami, Byrd very nearly had a beautiful interception on a Chad Henne (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34897/Chad_Henne) pass in the end zone. Folks, his instincts and ball skills weren't oversold in April. This guy can play.
I don't think it's a coincidence, either, that Buffalo has really struggled to defend the run - including against Cleveland - ever since the second half against New Orleans, which just happens to be roughly the time that Donte Whitner (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1912/Donte_Whitner) was injured. (It's roughly the time Bryan Scott (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2049/Bryan_Scott) was injured as well, for the record.) I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Whitner was playing at a near-Pro Bowl level before his injury, particularly defending the run. He was all over the football field.
If they can stay healthy - and if both can survive a likely off-season regime change - Buffalo has a safety tandem in Whitner and Byrd that are extremely versatile, fast, athletic, and excel in different areas (Whitner defending the run, Byrd the pass). These guys are both young and extremely talented, and they complement each other well. This, at least, is something to look forward to - the Bills have a pair of potentially elite safeties.

I love the idea of Byrd and Whitner on the field at the same time.

Yeah, OK.

Ellison was on coverage both times.. Blame Perry Fewell.

I could easily argue by going back to the 2.5 games Whitner played in; that you'd be hard pressed to find a single mistake he's made this year

Any new on Poz coming back?? I hope he does. I know that he is risking hurting his arm worse, but we NEED that passion! If he is willing to nut up or shut up like that, that's the type of attitude that is going to rub off on other guys! Maybe they can even help our coach grow a pair and show some passion (doubtful, but maaaaaaybe).

I think it might even be worth bringing him back with a club. Less chance of a Poz int but more chance of straight up pain.

Whoops, sorry I'm out of it today, you're right, it was Ellison, sometimes when you watch so much crappy football it's hard to keep things straight.

We're going to need all the help we can get with all our LB's out so I should hope to hell Whitner is back in, but Whitner isn't going to help us much unless he learns how to throw TD passes.

And does anyone else think it's totally moronic to not have Maybin on the field as a LB?

That was not Whitner's responsibility.

I'd rather see Byrd play. He's one big play away from matching Whitner career total.

Yeah, fans don't want this team to be good. Yeah, you're right. Players get paid whether they win or lose, we lose money by buying tickets, etc. whether this team is garbage or not. I stopped wasting my money buying Bills related stuff for a couple years now. Not if I could only keep myself from wasting my time.
