And I'm going to attempt to give a flying ****.
Can't tell the difference if he's playing or not, our defense is the same.Last edited by raphael120; 10-14-2009, 09:21 AM.

But whitner was playing some SOLID football before he got hurt, easily the best of his career, which wasn't a very large measuring stick to begin with, but still.
Whitner is a very good safety. There is a reason our defense limits offenses to minimal points despite a solid pass rush... Whitner, McGee, Mcklevin.

Yeah, OK.
I know lots of us dont like Whitner but come on, if you cant see that he was playing at a pretty high level, then this is just blind hatred and nothing else.

Re: Sourc: Whitner to attempt to practice today
This is a more accurate interpretation than the hate spewed in this thread.
- I'll write a post about how unbelievably important - unbelievable to me, at least - Donte Whitner is to Buffalo's run defense. Like Posluszny, Whitner is remarkably disciplined, and outstanding at reading keys and beating blockers to the back. I'll say it now: in the first three games, Whitner was playing at a Pro Bowl-ish level. Jairus Byrd and George Wilson were OK in Miami, but neither has anywhere close to the run-defense dominance of Whitner. We need him back ASAP.
Buffalo Rumblings begrudgingly takes a look back at the tape of the Buffalo Bills' embarrassing 38-10 road loss to the Miami Dolphins.
On the safety position. Folks, I realize that most of you hated the pick when it was made, but Jairus Byrd was a great selection by this team. Or, rather, the player selected could be great. Byrd was all over the field Sunday, finishing with seven tackles and a really nice, plucked-before-hitting-the-ground interception on a terrible Derek Anderson overthrow. He made some pretty big hits defending the run, too. A week prior in Miami, Byrd very nearly had a beautiful interception on a Chad Henne pass in the end zone. Folks, his instincts and ball skills weren't oversold in April. This guy can play.
I don't think it's a coincidence, either, that Buffalo has really struggled to defend the run - including against Cleveland - ever since the second half against New Orleans, which just happens to be roughly the time that Donte Whitner was injured. (It's roughly the time Bryan Scott was injured as well, for the record.) I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Whitner was playing at a near-Pro Bowl level before his injury, particularly defending the run. He was all over the football field.
If they can stay healthy - and if both can survive a likely off-season regime change - Buffalo has a safety tandem in Whitner and Byrd that are extremely versatile, fast, athletic, and excel in different areas (Whitner defending the run, Byrd the pass). These guys are both young and extremely talented, and they complement each other well. This, at least, is something to look forward to - the Bills have a pair of potentially elite safeties.
Buffalo Rumblings breaks down the film from the Buffalo Bills' 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. No - they did not enjoy it.

Yeah, OK.
I could easily argue by going back to the 2.5 games Whitner played in; that you'd be hard pressed to find a single mistake he's made this year

Re: Sourc: Whitner to attempt to practice today
Any new on Poz coming back?? I hope he does. I know that he is risking hurting his arm worse, but we NEED that passion! If he is willing to nut up or shut up like that, that's the type of attitude that is going to rub off on other guys! Maybe they can even help our coach grow a pair and show some passion (doubtful, but maaaaaaybe).
