    Giants Await Slimmer Dayne

    May 28, 2003 -- The Giants' mandatory veteran mini-camp starts Monday and a slimmer, better-conditioned Ron Dayne - who has been gone but not forgotten this offseason - is expected to attend.
    "I don't see any reason why he shouldn't," Dayne's agent, Terry Lavenstein, said yesterday.

    The disgruntled running back has been a no-show for the entire off-season workout program, the only player without a legitimate excuse who has not made a single appearance at Giants Stadium. Although the program is voluntary, coach Jim Fassel expects his players to take part and does not take kindly to those who stay away

    Personal trainer says Ron set for Giant year
    Ron Dayne was never much of a workout fiend. And the more he stood on the Giants' sidelines, waiting for an opportunity that wasn't coming, the more that seemed to be true. By the end of last season - his least productive yet - he had ballooned to more than 260 pounds.
    But, all that apparently changed during his self-imposed exile from Giants Stadium, which included a five-week stint with a personal trainer. When Dayne arrives Monday morning at the Giants' veteran mini-camp, according to his personal trainer, his coaches and teammates will see a new man.
