After Gerald Snyder, the father of Washington Redskins principal owner Daniel Snyder and a minority owner of the team, underwent heart surgery recently, he had family members and friends gathered around his hospital bed when he summoned his surgeon and told the doctor that he had a lump on the left side of his chest. When the unsuspecting doctor lifted the sheet covering the elder Snyder, he found a football cradled in his patient's arm.
"We thought it was great," Redskins co-owner Fred Drasner recalled yesterday at a funeral service in Rockville for Gerald Snyder, who died Friday at age 69 from complications from his heart procedure. "The doctor didn't."...
