    Sabres sign prospects Roy, Thorburn

    Buffalo Sabres: Forwards Derek Roy and Chris Thorburn, both of Buffalo's 2001 second-round draft picks, signed contracts Wednesday.

    Roy is coming off a stellar season with Kitchener of the OHL, with 28 goals and 78 points in 49 games. He also had three goals and an assist in four games to help the Rangers win the Memorial Cup and take MVP honors.

    "He's not a big guy," Sabres general manager said of Roy, who's listed at 5-foot-9, 188 pounds. "But he has a big heart. And he plays a north-south game. He goes into traffic, into places you have to go to make a difference."

    Thorburn is a rugged center who finished with 30 goals, 71 points and 124 penalty minutes in 64 games with Plymouth of the OHL last season.

    The Sabres had until Sunday to sign Roy and Thorburn. If they had not signed, they would have been eligible to re-enter the draft.

    Thorburn is good, but not NHL rugged.

      not to mention he had about 48 goals the year before roy i mean..
