Sabre lives dream in his own backyard

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - He's living his dream right in his backyard.

Teammates embrace Buffalo Sabres forward Tim Kennedy after scoring his first goal in the NHL a few weeks ago, against the New Jersey Devils.

This young, tough and rugged hockey star doesn't take all the credit for his success.

He's quick to tell you South Buffalo prepared him for the pros and helped him reach his ultimate goal.

It was on Culver Road, where Kennedy grew up.

Even today the 23-year-old resides in South Buffalo, still connected to those who knew him before the fame.

"I have the same friends since I was six or seven years old. Some of my best friends we still hang out," said Kennedy.

He says, his girlfriend Janelle was his high school sweetheart. Kennedy said, "We've been best friends since we were 12, so it's nice."

Kennedy's love for the game started at the old Aud, a special place etched in his memory forever.

"It's weird seeing that space their without the old yellow ugly color it used to be," Kennedy said.

One moment at the Aud that he says changed his life. The 1993 playoff game against the Boston Bruins, Brad May scored the winning goal.

That's was the night Tim Kennedy said, "I want to play for the Buffalo Sabres."

"I think that was the moment where I decided that's what I want to do. I mean it's so hard to tell because when you're growing up, it's you just love the playing hockey. But that was the moment that always sticks out for me, when he scored that goal with the famous call that Rick Jeanneret made," Kennedy shared.
