Email from 2 hours prior to the report of the firing tipping Pat off that Jauron had been fired. Time stamped and everything.

It sucks for sure, but at least he has the sources. Next time he'll get it.

It def sucks from the marketing standpoint because def the local media would have picked up on it. Not sure if the national media would have but local for sure. But, i think you gained more respect from posters though. That is pretty cool, even though you didn't reveal it first, it's cool you actually do have sources.

that's only one. .I have several more.

I guess the bright side is I that if nothing else at least hopefully most people see I do have credible sources.

But still. That would've been the break of a lifetime for a website trying to make a name for itself.

It was an email at 12:45 pm telling me that "'I"ve just learned that Dick Jauron has been fired"

It was reported on NFL.com at about 2:15 originally.

YOu guys are right, those are the breaks. But a Jauron fire story doesnt get any bigger around here, and for a site just starting out like mine it would've been the big national break I needed.

would you have run with the story if you HAD gotten the email on time? seems like a risky thing to do, if your source was wrong your reputation would take a huge hit. hindsight is 20/20....

That sucks, Pat. A chance like that is one in a million. Hate to say it, but the probability is you won't get another scoop that big with national implications handed to you hours before anyone else.

I didn't even see what was going on there it's behind a password protected page but it doesn't take much to change an electronic timestamp. I would never rely on that.
