Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman is among the people the Buffalo Bills want to speak to about their vacant coaching job, U.S. all-sports cable network ESPN reported yesterday.

The Bills fired Dick Jauron last Tuesday, and are currently being coached on an interim basis by defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell.

Trestman, 53 – who has served on past NFL coaching staffs for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins – led Montreal to the Grey Cup final in his rookie CFL season a year ago.

The Als went 15-3 this season, and host the East Division final against the B.C. Lions on Sunday

If Shanahan is hired, he'll want to run his own system. I don't have a problem with that having Lynch and Jackson but I hope Shanahan finds a great DC.

If the Bills hire this guy, it's just same ****, different day- more proof that nothing has really changed.

If Trestman has a Polian in his pocket, it might work out.

If ANYONE has a Polian in their pocket they're a winner in my book Jan. Nobody in the history of the league is a better talent finding GM than Polian.

I can't remember who said it before or in what thread, but we need a football guy in the GM position.

Trestman was successful at the NFL level in his various jobs.

He was the OC of the Raiders when they played Tampa in the SB.

He's an intriguing choice.

Was OC of the Browns in 89 when they made the AFC championship game.

QB coach in SF in 1995 where they lead the NFL in points scored.

OC/QB coach in Arizona when Arizona won it's first playoff game in 50 years in 1998.

The guy knows a little about offense. He'd need to bring in a strong DC with him though.

Damn, good research Fun. Hmm... Could be a great OC/assistant head coach.

I still remember how much Kosar lobbied the Browns front office and Schottenheimer in 88 to bring Trestman in.

Trestman was Kosars' QB coach at the University of Miami.

Ya know, I never really even thought about him as a choice til he was mentioned.

Personally, out of every guy I've heard mentioned linked to the job besides Cowher who is a pipe dream, I'd like to see Trestman get a shot.

Like I said, he'll need to pull in a strong DC to make it work but even if he doesn't we should be watching a lot of exciting football games.

I'd like to win but also would like to be entertained and not just in a holy crap is this comical sort of way. Trestman would bring entertainment on offense.

If we signed him I would root for another team, seriously. THAT would be THE final straw.

I wouldn't mind that. But I assume whoever our coach is, he'll take full control and bring in people.

Why?

Championship caliber coach, extremely successful, and a very good offensive mind.
