Junior wide receiver Mike Williams, who left the Syracuse program three weeks ago, has informed school officials that he will not return next season, and will enter the NFL draft in April 2010 as an underclassman, sources told ESPN.com.

No big surprise.

Naw man, why did he leave college in mid season.

Rumors are he was failing again and was going to be suspended full season. He was suspended against Akron first and I believe that was academically related as a last shot to pull his grades up. That's not confirmed though.

you mean a "student/athlete" was going to have low grades?? Shocking.

I wonder what would happen if Texas suspended their players who were doing poorly.

Yes Eb we know it happens, sadly though 99% of student athletes maintain good GPA's and go on to successful careers both in their sports and outside of them. Don't use the exceptions and attempt to apply them as rules.

99%?? I think you need to look up some stats. I have student-athletes in my classes...that number isn't as high as you think.

I think you do, do you realize how many student athletes are in the NCAA? Its not just the 100 or so on each teams football and basketball teams.

That's not really true.

I know the story after talking to some people. Allegedly, he and few other people were out well after curfew and went to a Casino, and he was involved in a minor car accident on the way home. So rather than face disciplinary action from the SU coach, he decided to quit.

You're right that he would've likely been suspended again, but not cause of grades

Seems to me they are probably taking the easiest classes, and seems they would be going less then average academically.

That wouldn't lead to a full season suspension though. Are you sure that not the reason he was suspended v. Akron? All reports Ive ready (read rumors) say that academics were again failing which would of led to full season suspension again. I dont have any sources at Syracuse though so you have more boots on the ground than I have there.

That's nice that's what you were trying to infer about but all you said was student athletes, not football players.

I think he hurt his stock.

I could see him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder before this, and now dropping to the 4th or beyond due to character questions.

Has there been a Mike Williams who hasn't sucked in the NFL?
