In 2005, Gill was hired by the Green Bay Packers as Director of Player Development to help players become acclimated to playing professional football in Green Bay and to direct players to resources concerning community involvement, continuing education, financial management, and retirement planning. He also served as an assistant wide receivers coach and an offensive assistant coach through December 2005.

Also he took a very bad UB Football program and Turned it into MAC Champions last season.

Gill is not NFL head coaching material at this time. Not even close.

Agreed...but there are those "anything Buffalo" fans who will go nuts saying what a great hire it would be!

ummmm why wouldn't he interview if offered? UB is barely DI. All UB fans get excited when they beat NorthWest Montana State 13-10. Yea, Ill always root for any team from Buffalo, but be realistic.

Barely D1?

We beat an undefeated, ranked Ball State last season to win the MAC championship.

Leftwich, Big Ben, Michael Turner, Pennington, Randy Moss, etc. all came from the MAC.

Because we don't just need a big-time HC, we need big-time coordinators, position coaches, talent evaluators and GM. Those kind of guys are hard enough to find, and they sure aren't going to follow Gill to Buffalo.

Turner Gill has a great deal of potential as a head coach either at the college or pro level, but he needs to stick around UB for a couple more years, then find a gig at a strong division one program or do some time as an offensive coordinator in the NFL before he's ready for an NFL head coaching position.

NCAA and NFL are 2 completely different worlds.

He could maybe be a coordinator at best.

I do like Gill but no thanks. Rather have him stay at UB and keep building.

I heard we are going after Joe Paterno. All we have to do is give him $100M and a percentage of Ralphs Burial plot.

Turner Gill? Really? Lets pretend he was the HC at Toledo instead of Buffalo. Would his name still come up as a potential Bills coach?

Agreed, he's a perfect coach at the college level but I can't see him making it in the pros with all the attitudes etc.

How about the Buff State coach? I think they won a couple of games in Division 3 this season.

the high school coach in Randolph is having a hell of a season. i bet The Old Fart can get him for 10% of $12 million and save almost $11 million.

I love Gill but he's a college guy through and through. If he goes anywhere it will be to a BCS school.

As for UB being barely a D1 program, they put two guys into the NFL last year (Jamie Richard-Colts/Trevor Scott-Raiders) and will likely put two more in this year. (James Starks/Naaman Roosevelt) It ain't BCS but the MAC is good football.
