Kyle Williams: We are a stupid team

    http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories...storyID=874983

    By JOHN WAWROW, Associated Press

    Last updated: 5:46 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009 ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. --

Kyle Williams doesn't mince words when assessing the Buffalo Bills near season-long run of fourth-quarter collapses.

To put it bluntly, the defensive tackle said Monday, if not for "our own stupidity," Buffalo (4-8) might still have more to play for entering the final month of the season. Instead, the Bills are all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention in a year in which the AFC East race is suddenly up for grabs with New England (7-5) struggling to hold onto first place."It's a bad time to have lost a lot of games in the fourth quarter because the division's right there," Williams said. "I think above all else, that's what really kind of sticks in your craw. To know that everything was so close, and the way things are shaking out in the division that, other than our own stupidity, we could've been there.

Can't really argue with him. Glad someone is speaking out.

Re: Kyle Williams: We are a stupid team

Whether he specifically is guilty or not of stupidity, a player can do that if he uses the word "we" when he's talking about his team. He recognizes it and telling the world. That means he's pretty sick of it. That's a good thing. Let's hope there aren't too many on the team who just don't care.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I'm not surprised Kyle Williams is talking. He's one of the only players on this team who has a right to talk. as he's about the only player on the defense who shows up week in and week out and gives 100%

The guy is a baller... and i'm glad he's laying it out right now in black and white. I like how he's manning up as well. Notice he calls himself out with the rest of his teammates.

that's a leader. Shame we don't have more of those. this team wouldn't be such a joke.

My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

        MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

Yes, the team raised on Harvard and Yale pedigree.

MAkes you wonder how some people here think he needs to be replaced on the starting line up.

KW is a baller. Why? Because he makes 2-3 great plays a game then gets run over for 200 yards for the rest?

Typical Buffalo Bill. Great in spurts. Average in the long run (no pun intended). Which usually equates to 7-9 or less.

Re: Kyle Williams: We are a stupid team

kyle williams wasn't drafted in the middle rounds to be a superstar. he was asked to step in as depth behind stroud, and he's given us a lot more than what this team calls depth. We call Demetrius Bell a starter adn everyone behind him depth.

Kyle williams doesn't have a thumb injury keep him out of the line up for 4 weeks. Kyle williams actually pushes through on 3rd and 4th and shorts. Kyle williams plays injured.

Kyle williams isn't one of our issues. He is fine. He's a mike lodish player. A good player that would be aided by finding and/or developinga superstar or two.

Exactly. Not a starter. A guy that comes in and plays well when yer starter needs a breather.

He does not last 4 quarters because it takes too much out of him to be stout for a full game. Spencer Johnson outplayed him when he started for him a couple weeks ago.

Yeah right, Johnson made 2-3 great plays (as you said Williams did) , and not much else. So, they are the same. Im fine with that, i think Kyle is a very solid player. Spencer johnson isn't as strong as Williams in the run game, while Spencer is more explosive. Especially because we're the Bills, we should all recognize we'll never have All-pros at every position and I for one am glad we at least have 2 very solid DT's to rotate in with Stroud.

williams is also playing on a damaged knee. While other players take themselves out, he keeps going back in.

Every player in the NFL is a little injured at this point in the season. His knee is not a big issue.

Re: Kyle Williams: We are a stupid team

The thing about Williams, and really the defense overall, is this:
Remember that the scheme is designed to be fast and playmaking. Williams' job is to shoot the gap and make plays in the backfield. When he does that, everyone sees it and is wowed. A sack! TFL! Those kinds of plays stick in fans' minds, and are therefore weighed disproportionately against the overwhelming majority of plays where that doesn't happen. If you shoot the gap and miss, you're out of the play. And if a lineman locks onto a DT like Williams, forget it. If it's a decent lineman, it's a mismatch. That's what happens most of the time, and that's a big reason why this team is dead last in rushing defense.
People slam Poz, and he's not without blame, but on so many plays it looks like it's up to him to stop the run all by himself because the line is a non-factor. He's not good enough to carry the D on his back and bail out an often-overmatched line whose poster boy is Kyle Williams.

Kyle Williams does not excel at run-stuffing, but I do feel that he is better than you'd give him credit for. How many defensive tackles consistently shoot that gap and knife into the backfield? Very few.
