  • If only .....

.... we'd drafted local lads Trevor Scott and Jamey Richard from the Buffalo Bulls in 2008.

Compared to Ellis, Scott has been a revelation, jointly leading all the rookies in sacks and repeating the performance this season, whilst Richard started seven games at guard despite being a 7th rounder.

We might not in 2009 have needed to draft either of our first rounders at DE or C/G and could have used the picks on a LB and a OT instead meaning this year we'd be adding the final piece of the puzzle in a QB not having to start out again.

This year, two talented Bulls players are coming out again, both in positions that could seriously benefit the team.

    Naaman Roosevelt WR

    James Starks RB
"We would have to watch junior film and base our decision on that," Tom Modrak said. "It's not good for the kid and it's too bad for the team and the program, but it's not the end of the world and he'll be able to get some things done." Starks has a huge body of work for scouts to assess. He leaves as UB's career yardage and scoring leader, racking up back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to become the first UB running back to do so. Last season, despite missing nearly three full games to injury, Starks rushed for 1,333 yards, scored 17 touchdowns and also racked up 52 receptions for 361 yards. "You don't have recent video and maybe it will hurt him some, but it shouldn't knock him out of the box," Modrak said. "You look at what he did before and you look and see if he's 100 percent and you ask, "Can he do it again?' There have been guys who have gone very high who didn't play their senior year."

Both may fill positions of needs, and rather than racking up airmiles lets hope the scouts have played close attention to very talented players down the road.

They may not be Day1 or Day2 picks, but they certainly will be Day3 steals and being local boys, likely to turn up every Sunday.
