My parents asked for a Wii for christmas.
They are interested in old style nintendo games.
With a Wii can you download those older games onto the actual unit like you would with Xbox? If so what is the cost per game?

You can, and they run about 5 bucks.

How many games does the Wii hold on it's hard drive?

You can, as Ron already pointed out, but the standard Wii controllers aren't the best for gaming.
You may want to get them this with the Wii:

I'm not sure...my brother has the Wii. I don't do much gaming anymore, other than the 360.
We downloaded about 15 old games one weekend, and I believe there was room for plenty more. Next time I speak to him, I'll ask him.

How do you download them as well? Is there a website?

We went right through the connection on the Wii, not a website. You buy points and use them to purchase games. They download right into the console.

on the main menu when you turn on the wii, there is an icon where you shop for games and stuff. it's all pretty intuitive.
getting the games takes like 30 seconds max.

Thanks man. You just go to an Xbox live type site off the Wii?
I only ask because I am going to do it at my house before giving it to them. They don't have internet access.

Yeah, you'll have to do it at your place. It's really intuitive, like trapezeus said. Very easy and takes very little time.

your parents don't have internet access and they want to play 8 bit Nintendo games? Do they also wear Zubaz pants and LA Gear sneakers with lights that blink when they walk?

You could just get them an old school NES System and a boat load of games. You can get those on E-Bay for next to nothing.

I did that last year. They don't work half the time, and it wasn't as cheap as you might think. It ran me near 100 bucks including all the games I got and system, controllers etc and it is just like an old Nintendo where you have to blow into the games and system to make them work. Then the dog knocked it off the stand a couple months ago and it broke.
With the Wii it will work well, all be centralized etc.
I am sure they will like some of the newer games as well but I will let them decide on that.

Nuff said about what? They have dial up. Just not something they could use to download games with a game system. They don't really use the computer anyways.
Should I print out your Grandma a medal or something?

they'd use the computer more if they had real internet instead of living in the past.

Would they?
I suppose I will have to break this down for OP...
My parents built a new house in the lot right next to our old house about 7 years ago. Our old house had time warner high speed. They never used it
In the new house when getting the cable set up time Warner wanted to charge them 1000 american dollars to instal a new line to the house for the high speed internet.(my parents live out in the boonies of Clarence and the house is quite far from the road) Since my parents never used it when they had it they decided against the 1000 pricetag.
WHAT NOW OP? Go back to whining about how bad the Sabres are.

On top of the $1000 price tag for installing, it also incurs money per month.
This is what I don't understand about Op. Some people just want to live their life a certain way, no worries, no technology, no problems. They pay their bills every month the same way, they go to the same stores to buy their groceries, they shop in the same department stores. The internet and cell phones are wonderful and can really make life easier if you want to go through a little hassle sometimes and pay for it. Why is it so difficult for you to understand that some people are perfectly content with doing things they way they have their whole life virtually for free? They don't need internet because they won't use it. They don't need cell phones because they have a land line that everyone knows and they don't go out often anyways.

If I had dial-up, I wouldn't use the Internet much either. I don't have that kind of patience.
All I'm saying is that if they want to play 8 bit Nintendo games and they don't have high speed internet, then they're living in the past.

No I am pretty sure they are living in the year 2009.
Not saying they wouldn't also play newer Wii games but I wanted to pre load some older classics I know they enjoy playing.
