    Mariucci crashes Izzo's party

DETROIT -- Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo was rudely interrupted as he started to talk about the "BasketBowl" during Thursday's news conference at Ford Field.

The culprit? Lions Coach Steve Mariucci, Izzo's best friend since their days in Iron Mountain.

"What's that piece of wood doing on my field?" Mariucci said on tape from a video played on Ford Field's large screen. "I've been here a few months, you're going to set attendance records on me. You're trying to upstage me again, aren't you? Trying to one-up me again!"

The video later showed Mariucci dunking, on what was presumably a short basket.

"Izzo, it doesn't matter if it's football or basketball, I still got you," Mariucci said.

Said Izzo, laughing: "Let's hope that our win (Michigan State over Kentucky) isn't the first win in this place for the (Iron) Mountaineers this year because we're not playing until December."
