Today, at least according to the NFL, is June 1.

Do not adjust your calendars just because the league did.

The NFL pushed its salary-cap deadline back a day only because the actual date fell on a Sunday. So not only will the Eagles begin another minicamp today at the NovaCare Complex; they also will also scour a list of high-salaried players who have been released by their former teams to make room under the cap.

A year ago, the Eagles signed linebacker Levon Kirkland, who was released by Seattle during this period, as well as wide receiver Antonio Freeman, who was released by Green Bay. They also pursued linebacker Hardy Nickerson, who eventually signed with Green Bay after being released by Jacksonville.

By releasing players on or after June 1, teams can spread the players' contracts out over two seasons rather than taking the entire hit in one year.

This year, the Eagles' most intense focus is likely to be on veteran safeties.
