I explored the We Want Bill Cowher billboard idea, and it’s not going to happen. I called Lamar Advertising and the earliest date we’d be able to get it up in a visible location (like the Jauron billboard) is January 11th. That’s too late, there is a good chance a full week after the season it may be too late, and potentially be a waste.
So my thinking and I’d like your opinion on this as well—is to take out a large display ad in the Buffalo News. If I submit it by Monday it could run mid-week. It would say something to the effect, on behalf of Bills fans, in no uncertain terms that we want Bill Cowher, and a plea to make it happen (Ralph).
Then to tie it potentially into something charitable, I figure that any extra money donated than what the ad will cost, will be donated directly the Western New York Make-A-Wish Foundation. I don’t care if it’s 25 cents or 25 million, that’s a solid cause, and would be “on behalf of Buffalo Bills fans everywhere.”
In the event that not enough money was raised for the ad (which I know wouldn’t be the case going by the reaction I’ve gotten), too much money, or something weird happened before we put out the display ad (like say Cowher taking another job)--- then every single penny would go to the Make A Wish.
Best case—We get a message across to show everyone how passionate Bills fans are, and there’s possibly a little left for charity. Worst case--- the Make A Wish foundation gets a nice charity gift from Bills fans. I consider it win, win and a good deed.
If we do this, I will have a running total post going on Buffalo Sports Daily with the amount received and at the time of presenting a potential check to the charity, will get a nice big white check and have from “Buffalo Bills fans”.
What do you think? Insight needed now since if this is something we’re to do, it has to commence quickly.
Thanks.
