why?

At the time of his retirement he was considered a top 5 talent guy in the NFL. He had a heavy hand in SD drafting players like Tomlinson, Rivers, Merriman, Croamartie, etc. He knows how to draft, and he knows how to eval talent.

This guy would be a very good move for us. He learned up Butler and Smith as well and was considered the guy the Falcons were going to go with if they didn't choose Dimitroff.

If Nix is as good a talent evaluator as his reputation indicates, and was assistant GM and Director of Pro Player Personnel at SD, and knows the Bills' organization, current roster and many needs, he sounds like the perfect candidate.

12-31-2009, 01:23 PM
Nix could well be a very good GM. Something to perhaps consider, is that he has only just 'come back' to the Bills, as in barely a year ago. I doubt he feels much 'loyalty' to anyone in any position in the FO. He's had that year to evaluate how things have been run. He may well already have his own plans for how to cut the chaff away.
As a noted talent evaluator, he held a position with the Chargers, where he was very responsible for the make up of their roster, both through the draft and FA. How many times do you have to hear TV pundits or announcers talk about the Chargers as one of the most talented teams around, to see what positive effect he might be able to have?
Anyone who thinks this is simply another 'promote from within' job, I would suggest is barking up the wrong tree.
If Nix can get the right HC in, it may well be possible to be genuine contenders again, within just a couple of years, assuming we draft well again, and also get someone in who can actually spot a good FA or two (which Nix himself may well be able to do).

Ha, ha...Ralphie is now justifying not bringing in somebody from outside...what a joke. Nix also said he will look and evaluate Guy and Modrak and not listen to things that are being said about them. Uh oh...if they stay...this team is doomed for more failure. You have been critical of the coaching and front office for awhile. in your opinion who would the best GM/Coach combo be if you were hiring? Serious question, i am not trying to be sarcastic.

Im not twisting Im making a clairifying question.

Yes Ralph does know him as he has formerly worked for us, he was successful under us and was extremely successful in SD. Its a good hire, imo.

Not what we all wanted (me included) but I can find no real fault in the guy right now. He has been successful at his previous stops and clearly knows how to draft. Makes a lot of sense since he has a great feel for our roster so far.

I dont put much stock in press conf statements because they are what they are. They don't mean anything, he has to say that he thinks we are close and blah, blah, blah.

Honestly, the best way to go about it in my opinion would have been to hire from outside the organization and bring in a different mentality and philosophy. This hire keeps the status quo of what this organization has done for the past 10 years. Now if Nix makes some changes, I'll definitely feel differently...but I don't know if that will happen.

Nix sounds like he wants a former head coach... said its not a must but is very "important"

Not so much names...just organizational philosophy...such as the asst to Newsome in Baltimore (forget his name).

And I've never said that and have been one to state that he needs time. I just don't like the sound of some of the things he's saying. They seem to be making excuses.

What? his QB rant seemed to be about the OLine!

But again...

The whole "get their confidence back" thing. Just sounds like what everyone has been saying about Trent.

And another excuse for why, if they don't get another guy, they'll continue with the mediocre players currently on this roster. Yuck!

70 is the new 75?

His age is of little difference considering you didn't know he was the Asst GM in SD and not just a scout.

But cling to the things that don't matter.
arent u doing the exact same thing?
last time i checked u can exaggerate... as per him being asstGM u obvioulsy knew that to cause you were so quick to pint out his correct age? cause of ur vast knowledge?
its a meassge board calm down
Have a Happy New Year DB cant wait for your draft analysis

True in that sense... but the rant was more about the OLine and coaching I thought. He almsot wanted to say the team is not improving because they aren't being taught correctly.

He also didn't sound like he was getting rid of Trent this year either.

i don't know why anyone would not have TE enter training camp. Brohm too. Hopefully another guy too.
